    Clutch Case Leak

Thanks Raymond. I am trying to keep a positive attitude and I am definitely learning new things and getting out of my comfort zone. Not having garage space and all the things (a lift) that would make this all go easier doesn’t help with the frustration level and my lower back and knees (no...

    Clutch Case Leak

Man oh man. And there is a gasket for the cover as well as for the oil filter element?

    Clutch Case Leak

Thanks 5twins. Going to try again this weekend when I have time. Since I’m deep into it anyways, I removed the two screws on the oil filter cover to check things out but the cover is not moving. What’s the trick here and why would the cover just not slip off if you remove the screws?

Sorry jpdevol. Not sure what you mean by pre-loaded the assembly.

    Clutch Case Leak

Is the wishbone supposed to be that far back when it is "relaxed?" When it is that far back the kickstart gear is engaged. Should the gear be engaged when putting the cover back on? I guess I don't understand where the kick stopper should be when it is in it's "recessed area." The wish bone...

    Clutch Case Leak

Now I screwed the pooch. Trying to get the case back on I pulled out the kick start shaft. I think I followed the directions I the Clymer manual to get it back in correctly, but it seems that the kick start gear should be further in the case? Does this look correct?

    Clutch Case Leak

Should the seal go all the way down to the ridge that is inside the kickstarter shaft opening?

    Clutch Case Leak

Continuing questions guys. What's the trick to get the kickstarter seal fully seated (down to the small ridge inside the chamber)? Just pushing down on it with my thumbs don't seem to be doing the trick. I thought about getting a large drive socket on top of it and hammering down on it, but...

    Clutch Case Leak

Understood toglhot. But if you are going to sell a bike as restored (which would mitigate a number of problems with a bike being 52 years old) shouldn't you check your work? I am coming across issues that the seller would have easily found with doing his due diligence. And the seller told me...

    Clutch Case Leak

Thanks 5twins And the washer would go on the outside of the bearing (next to the oil seal)?

    Clutch Case Leak

Thanks gggGary, So #20 is the washer? Where does the washer go? Against the oil seal? Or does the thrust bearing go against the oil seal and the washer against the spring guide (#8)? BTW, there was no circlip as shown in # 21.

    Clutch Case Leak

Thanks guys. I really do think the seller was honest but failed in this case to do his due diligence. If he would have said "The buyer is going to need to put in time and effort (and possibly additional costs) to fine tune, make adjustments, check my restoration work." He might not have sold...

    Clutch Case Leak

I have really become disheartened and regret buying the 1970 XS650 I did on Ebay. What was supposed to have been a restored bike was done with what seems to be little care, or more specifically done but no time taken to see if adjustments needed to be made or things redone. From what I can tell...

Wanted - Rear Turn Signal Brackets

Hello, Alex here from Los Angeles. Newbie to the site. I am soon to be the owner of a 1970 XS650. It doesn't have turn signals and I would like to add them. It looks like I can get everything I need at Mike's XS except the brackets that need to be added to attach the rear signals. I believe...
