Update. She runs, everything was good to go till it failed the safety for a bad frame. Agggg po must have ramped a curb or something and did some repair work to the frame below the engine, apparently thats a no go. Guess that's what you get for being a newbie rider/owner with a shoot first ask...

Ok. since I've already got the parts for a disk brake set up I think it might be easier to go that route. If not then I need a new wheel, brake assembly and swing arm along with a bunch of other odds and ends. If I come home with even more parts the wife will have me sleeping on the couch...

Hey all. So I've managed to get myself into a bind. I've got a 78 special with some apparent frame damage. My question is will a 79 xs-2f frame work with no fabrication work required. The 78 is disk brake but the 79 was drum. I'm hoping everything is a straight swap

It's a 78. Special. But the left fork has bolt holes for another caliper. Not sure if the forks were all the same and didn't use those holes or some p.o. just put them in there.

Hey all I was looking at where the speedo housing meets the fork and its barely touching. Am I missing some spacer or something. The rotor and caliper line up fine on the right side. Is there supposed to be that gap or is something wrong here? Could it be a bent fork?

Hey all. Looking for a standard gas cap. I picked up a tank at a local parts yard and thought I could just use the cap that I already had. Turns out it's longer than the "new" tanks mount and pin. Not sure what year it's from but the tank has a dual petcock and is about 71mm from centre of pin...

the bike is a 78 but the tank is not, its only got one petcock. the hole is where the PO shaved off the emblems. I might just give the caswell a try if i can find it around here, but will first use the tank epoxy.

Hey everyone. So I've been trying to get this bike put back together to hopefully be able to ride this summer. After I added gas to the tank I started to notice some of the paint on the sides of the tank where the emblems used to be start to bubble. I was hoping this was a coincidence but...

It's a 78 special. But the previous owners have added a bunch of different parts. Speak and tach are from something else. The turnsignal control is from something pre '77 I believe since it has a choke control.

Hey all. Was was replacing my clutch shaft seal and bearing and noticed the drive gear has a bit of a wobble. I've never ridden this bike, still in the process of getting it fixed up. But is this amount of play normal. Nut seems tight.
