A ripp'n hardtail bobber build from a seized, desert rat: CALLING ALL DESTROYERS

It is the wrong caliper. Either way, the caliper needs to be flipped right side up so that the two empty bolt holes line up with the bracket. The caliper you are looking for has a bolt hole mid way down the body and one at the top. You can find a picture on Pandemoniums site.

good looking out and thanks but I'm aware - i think there was some confusion during the order...i apologize that my sarcasm didn't translate in my post

I've concluded its the wrong caliper..

the Pandemonium kit requires Brembos with 65mm spacing between mount holes>>
http://www.gothamcycles.com/servlet/the-712/Ducati-Brembo-Front-Brake/Detail

C-Los SD has a pic of his installed correctly with said caliper >> http://www.xs650.com/forum/showpost.php?p=177244&postcount=10

Pandemonium install instructions >> http://www.xs650chopper.com/wp-cont...650-Brembo-Brake-Kit-HOW-TO-INSTALL-20111.pdf

I lucked out with my caliper. Pandemonium had one sitting around the shop that they sold to me for $75. Ebay seems a bit pricey and it's hard to come by a single caliper. Mag wheels call for a left side caliper due to spacing and it looks like you want a right side for your spoked application. I'm sure you could find someone to go in halves with you on the $179 pair at Gotham Cycles.

funny i was just in the middle of searching for the caliper i need. good looking out!

refurbished rotor:

the original rotor that came with calling all destroyers was straight busted and out of spec:
photo-4-2.jpg

the rotor that came with the other xs650 i have looked a lot better and as a result has now joined the calling all destroyers family!

rather than buying a new one i figured with all the writings on refurbishing a rotor i could make my BRAND NEW! of course mine will be crossed drilled!

http://www.xs650.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12671&highlight=cross+drill+rotor

i decided to use the sweeping pattern and definitely listened to all the don'ts
http://www.xs650.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18769&highlight=disc+rotor

laying out the pattern:
photo15-2.jpg

i decided i was about to move into a looooong journey
so i scrapped the stencil, wrote a tape for the mill, threw the rotor in and boom!
had a crossed drill rotor

however! the holes in the rotor looked tight! the surface not so much. but then i saw this:

heres my version chucked up:

after some masking and high temperature paint we are ready to go...i mean stop:

(after my build is done i will be offering this as a service to my fellow xs650 members. message if interested. we can do various patterns)

Exhaust Port Optimizers:

happy 4th. i was making fireworks of my own as my pipes needed to some modifications to fit the exhaust port optimizers from 650 central.com: http://650central.com/

omar's has them as well but i went with 650 central epo's:
IMG_5102.jpg

heres a chart from omar's explaining the benefits.http://www.omarsdtr.com/XhaustOptimizer.pdf

maybe its snake oil maybe it isn't. we will see...
i had some trouble fitting them to the head. upon further research i found this thread concerning similar issues: http://www.xs650.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11333&highlight=exhaust+port+optimizer

i followed the same steps and was able to finally get them in
but as mentioned earlier i had to modify my pipes.
as can be seen below, the pipe extends past the collar allowing a gap to exist between the EPO and the pipe.

nothing a cut off blade can't fix:

coil mount:

I've had a couple issues i.e. what coils work with upgraded electronics and what coils don't. now that thats all figured out the next step is where to mount these green boogers. (man are they ugly). I'm trying to put all the electronics up under the tank, keeping that wide open minimal look I've talked so much about. in doing so i believe will need to reposition my coils to point up maintaing a tight squeeze under the tank.

for that slim mount i machined two of these:

mounted:

tight...literally!

i have 2 weeks to get everything to powder and paint if I'm going to make my deadline-eek! i spent about 6 hours on the bike yesterday though i feel like nothing real got done:

extended and installed brake rod-check
mocked up brembo caliper (more on that later)-check
mocked up damper rod (more on that later)-check
mocked up speedo mount (more on that later)-check
re-gapped spark plugs (michael from 650central recommended that along with this http://www.xs650.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11670&highlight=spark+plug+gap-checl
swapped remaning bolts-check
built spark plug wires (http://www.yamahaxs650.com/WireCaps.htm)-checl

one thing i was able to do was get the rectifier and coils mounted. I'm afraid its going to be a tight squeeze under my tank. as a result it was decided to bring the coils in a litter closer and mount them pointing up so that everything will be nice and slim under thank:

and speaking of tank!
I'm without a welder right now or else i would be all over chopping up my tank. since I'm not i decided to make a visit to my homie Jose down in riverside at UNTOUCHABLE METAL WORKS. jose does amazing metal work as seen in these before and after photos:
before:
photo-13.png

after:
photo-2-4.png

jose and i discussed how i envisioned my tank and he got to work right away
he's kept my up to date on his progress via instagram:
starting off:
photo-4-2.png

cutting the tank in two (notice the rust. i originally planned to do the whole chemical clean out, re-coat but now with this type of access some sand blasting will do the job):
photo-3-2.png

gas lid mount (done the right way):
photo-1-4.png

jose doesn't normally work on tanks. mine will be his second and since his metal work is so dope i plan on clear coating the tank, leaving the metal raw. id feel too guilty covering up that talent!

my tank is in and i have to say jose at http://untouchablemetalworks.com/ MURDERED IT!

it looks amazing. jose took out all the dents, filled in the badges like its supposed to be done, put in the new gas fill and cleaned out the inside!

not to mention theres a beautiful copper patina through out the tank due to the nickel of the chrome ( if i would have foreseen this i would have copper plated all my parts rather than gold anodize but i think the copper is going to distract from the gold. i guess I'm gonna have to brush it out and clear coat)

close up on copper:
IMG_5175.jpg

ooops! all that welding and heat sucked the tank in to be tighter than original. thank goodness this was foreseen at the coils mounted in a slimmer position:
IMG_5151.jpg

home made wedge: wood planks, washer, and some tapping to open up the underside of the tank:
IMG_5150.jpg

yes please:
IMG_5155.jpg

now there are a few options for replacement gussets for the xs650 and i chose to whip up my own. a fairly basic operation, I've decided that the sanding disc for my grinder is one of my most favorite tools:

out with the old:
IMG_5153.jpg

cutting the new:
IMG_5164.jpg

in with the new (tapped holes for the tank mounts):

steering damper: I've decided to mount a steering damper on calling all destroyers. i mean this bike wouldn't be much of a destroyer with out a damper (i imagine it to be sword ilke). heres a great little thread about dampers: http://www.xs650.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1496&highlight=steering+damper

mine clamps onto the left fork under the bottom triple tree and mounts to the right side down tube of the frame via a weld-in bung:

IMG_5161.jpg

ripp'n!

rear brake switch:

now there are sooooo many ways to mount a rear brake switch and for the most part the installation works well. BUT I'm trying to so hard to do everything in my power to keep the area below my seat as wide open as possible. in doing so i decide to tuck the brake return spring in tight and go with one of these rear brake switches:
IMG_5152.jpg

installed- the switch is mounted on the inside of the frame using a shoulder bolt (only the spring can be seen):
IMG_5171.jpg

IMG_5172.jpg

the brake rod has been upgraded to 1/4" rod and all seems to be awesome

i have a thing against license plates. I'm not sure why but i really hate them and I've only seen a few options of mounting license plates that don't bother me, most of which are illegal. inspired by my friends hd sportster spring loaded license mount i started researching and came across this sucker:
IMG_5166.jpg

its pretty minimal and nonintrusive and with a few mods i.e. cutting, drill and tap the frame, the spring loaded plate mount was ready:

does anybody know INDIANAXS650?
i paid him for a pair of forks but he hasn't sent them nor returned any of my messages. if you know him can you please ask him to contact me...
wtf!

speedo mount:
in every custom build there seems to be one custom act that stands out beyond the rest. well for CALLING ALL DESTROYERS that thing is the remote speedo mount.

i HATE it when i see custom bikes anchored down but a tach or speedo. why put all that time and attention into the details of a build only to counter hard work with an ornament of complete ugliness!?!?!

I've put too much work into this build to let a dumb ugly speedo kill the flow of CALLING ALL DESTROYERS. I've searched and searched for some alternative to mounting the speedo on the handlebars only to find nothing. i could omit the speedo all together but this isn't the bike for that.

my solution??? a custom machined mini speedo mount that attaches to the down tube of the frame, tucking the speedo close into the bike and out of obvious site lines:

for anyone interested, these mounts are for sale, as are the coil mounts please. contact me for more info

tank mount:

this bridgestone tank calls for 1 1/4" rubber mounts in the front. i ended up finding a pair of rubber stoppers that fit very well. cut down to the thickness need i drilled and tapped the gussets where i wanted them to mount. after this i punched out the center to allow an m8 bolt fit through the rubber and screw into the gussets:

photo-1-6.jpg

photo-15.jpg

the tank fits very snug. next is the back mount which i foresee will be a little more involved...
