So I have an '80 XS650 "Special" and I finally got down to studying the electrical diagram.
It's got s fancy, overly complicated "reserve lighting" system that makes sure I always have a headlight and a light to tell me the light isn't lighting.
Also has an overly complicated sensor system to "auto cancel" the turn signals in case I'm too stupid to turn them off or don't see the big amber flashing light on the instruments.
And I looked and looked for the oil pressure sensor that would indicate a REAL serious problem that could lead to engine failure and.....NOOOOOOO! Yamaha didn't include that!:wtf:
Got one on a 1972 Honda....

Anyway, feel better now, thanks:)
BTW...has anyone installed an oil sensor or gauge?

- there is a lot of extra stuff in these looms...easy to trim them down quite a bit, often easier to start from scratch

- oil pressure/temp- and volt- meters are actually meaningful additions

The RLU can be a source of problems and many of us simply do away with it by jumpering a couple wires per the instructions here .....

The remaining white indicator light on the dash can be easily turned into a charge indicator like the "Gen" light on your car's dash thanks to a simple mod from Pamcopete .....

I highly recommend this mod since the charging systems on these bikes like to stop working quite often.

Great idea. Thanks!

Install a voltmeter
As someone who has done extensive work in electronics, I have to agree.
However, the chance to use that useless while indicator light is tempting and Oh so easy :)
