Resisting Temptation

Hi Scott,
as I understand ABATE, they are not against wearing helmets, they are against making helmets mandatory.
Presumably seat belts, too?
Perhaps they have a point? Folks do all kinds of hazardous things just for the fun of it.
They climb mountains, crawl into caves, jump out of aircraft hoping their parachute will open and none of those activities are against the law fer chrissake.
Imagine how many lives would be saved if car drivers were forced to wear helmets.

I agree.....................helmets should be mandatory in cars/trucks/buses. Canadians send e-mails to your provincial and federal mpp and mp. Americans do the same to your congressmen and senators. If we flood their offices with e-mail they will have to listen.

On the other hand, its a little to late to enact a helmet law for cars and trucks. Within a few years, all vehicles on our roads will be controlled by computers. Perhaps even motorcycles and scooters will be run by computers. When that happens, there will be no need for helmets or seat belts, because computers don't make driving errors. Automotive collision and body shops will go out of business. There will no longer be traffic gridlock, because computers will regulate traffic flow. Even airplanes will soon be absent of a pilot.......................they may keep a blowup dummy in the cockpit, just to give passengers a false sense of "human" control.

Yes my friends this is all going to happen very soon. Google, Apple and Bill Gates will soon be controlling your whole life. Many people think they control us now, but this is just the beginning. You think your smart phone bill is high now. Wait until the added monthly fees for household vehicle control services are added in. I hope I haven't scared anyone:D

What is it about him that upsets you?

I quess the question is why the need to ask...........ultimately it was the Administrators decision to ban him............having to ask is only rehashing a situation or questioning some one right to an opinion............if you weren't there what does it matter.............

An aside, that second thread you linked to indicate MikesXS 750 kits are problematic..........it appears media from the media blasting wasn't cleaned out of the engine properly hence scratched bores = smoking barrels

I was trying to figure out why he's gone yet you're still here, decade after decade, not doing much except correcting the behavior of other grownups.

That wasn't my intent, but since it doesn't involve you, why elaborate? Your philosophy.

When the hospital gets word of a bike accident involving lane splitters (especially with no helmet) coming in, they say,
"Get the operating room ready, we have an organ donor coming in" !

When I still live in CA, my GF at the time worked in the hospital down in San Diego. I used to go and hang out with her at work and life flight with motorcycle accidents were very common.

Hey, you guys miss him so much go over to the KZ forum and say gidday

:laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing:...............:laughing::laughing::laughing:...................:laughing::laughing::laughing:.............did you say grownups.........:laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing:.

Hi Pete,
well, I was sorry to see him go. Consider the amusement factor, eh?
and if anyone was naive enough to take him seriously, it's just too bad.

True Fred - but he did hurt some nice people's feelings in a bullying fashion - and I have always hated bullies.

Cheers,

Pete

Strange but funny comparison. Low speed mishaps are where a helmet gives the most protection. I have a cracked helmet and had three cracked ribs to prove it. I'm certain I would have been dead without the helmet, speed, I was barely moving.

Yes, most accidents happen within 5 minutes from home. My buddy stopped two blocks from home bought some smokes and was going home. Pretty much right out in front of our place a van was signaling right and doing it like molasses in winter. So my buddy went around to the left and the van driver turned left. He was only doing about 20 mph, he was fine, but his bike was trashed.

At least he wasn't some annoying virtue signaler.
Hi xjwmx,
OK, I thought I'd heard it all but you got me with that one. What's a "virtue signaller"?
A turn indicator that sez "Jesus" when it flashes? Surely not a stoplight that sez "Oh fuck!"

thank you Fred... I didn't want to show my "UN- HIP-NESS" by asking the same question...LOL.... not that I really care if I'm Hip or not ! LOL....
.....
but to quote.....

the thing that struck me was this statement that seams to have been lost on everyone else...
"I was trying to figure out why he's gone yet you're still here"..... which is a DAMM good Question !

Bob........

I think equating all lane splitting to someone who's trying to pass cars between lanes while going 50mph around a turn shortly after tailgating a car, all in a state where lane splitting isn't legal and cares are not used to it, is just a bad comparison. California has insane traffic on multilane highways, which as I understand it, used to cause problems with air cooled bikes overheating, and was the reason for letting bikes slowly filter their way through slow moving traffic.

I live in Pennsylvania, where it's also not legal, and I have never done it. Having said that, I've never understood why people are so bothered by it. I assume they've seen too many sportbikes going 100mph down the highway weaving between cars and assume it's the same thing. Same people who get mad at bicycles who don't wait in traffic downtown, people just irritated when they see someone moving faster than they are.

My dad is a retired orthopedic surgeon who hated the no-helmet law that they have in some states.

The problem, he said, wasn't that riders died. If you died, no problem, that was your choice, your decision.

But if you somehow survived, you are going to bankrupt yourself, your family, and more. Health insurance, being as awful as it is in this country, will fight you every inch of the way and eventually stop giving you coverage.

He said he had seen this happen too many times.
