bare-bone '76 xs650, copying the Russell Taylor build

Check the All Balls site. They have a chart that lists bearings by I.D and O.D. You might be able to find a bearing with the O.D. to fit the hub and the I.D. to fit the axle.
What about axle spacers? Does the hub fit correctly between the forks?

The hub (front brake drum) does not fit correctly between the forks of the xs650- the forks are spaced too wide by a good margin.

I am going to try to figure out if that axle shaft comes from an xs400 before I do anything else.

You can't make spacers?

I suppose I could have spacers made, but the width of the forks compared to the tires is just too much, aesthetically speaking. I would rather find the correct forks/triple tree, and make it that way.

Ok, I've established that the front brake drum is indeed off an xs400, so I'm going shopping for some xs400 forks and triple trees. I reckon I'll have to machine new triple tree clamps to keep xs400 proportion but use the xs650 stem, which is similar to what I had to do for my virago project.

Still looking for xs400 forks that take drum brakes if anyone has any, or a lead I could follow up on......

Got forks and tt clamps.. here's how things look at this point:
