anyone in here that have figured out how to mix the star black paint used on the 1975 XS650B ? or possible know a painter in NE Florida / SE Georgia that are able to spray that color ??
I have search all sources i know of - all i learned is that it's not a standard color you can buy and possible the clear coat was the part with the silver specks

I do a LOT of color matching for my day job. A lot of it I mix on the fly but when it’s large quantities I get the color mixed. - I’ve done hundreds of colors and have yet to find one that the photo scanner at the paint shop couldn’t match (metallics included).

of course this requires a sample but if you got a tank there is probably a spot on there they could pull a sample from.

you can get it mixed in a rattle can and then test it out before getting larger quantities made.

just a suggestion if you haven’t already tried.

got enough to take a sample - the tank is actually in pretty good condition - however faded and a tiny dent, maybe a fresh coat of clear would be enough - fi not no harm done :)

If you want to take a sample ... clean it real good and buff/polish out a 3-4” circle as nice as you can, that way they can get as clear of a scan as possible.

if you load it with metallic - if it was me, I’d spray it solid black and then spray one clean coat with the black metallic as to not over load it since it’s been determined the metallic is in the clear.

then clear.

but that’s just me.

many ways to skin the cat

worth a try, I experimented with the headlight brackets to see how it worked out, did solid black and mixed silver metallic flakes in a clear coat, however even with the finest metallic flake i could get it was a bit to much - not terrible but the tank need it finer - so yes may be a good idea try your suggestion above - thanks for the input
