Anyone have experience with BMW R1100R? Should I try and convince my wife I need one?

96 R1100R, with around 30k on it. Asking price is $1200 needs the fuel system gone through. (Pump and injectors included, need to be installed) received_938649406934833.jpeg

BMW, FREE! needs complete service.
:laughing::laughing:
That's not a lot of miles, I've had BMW's that were great, Had an 1150 last year, wasn't so impressed with that one.
Read up on the forums year, and model for gotcha's FIRST.:cautious:
Anything clutch related on a beemer is going to be a major PITA.
Lot easier to work on the one's without tupperware.

There is a reason airheads bring more than twice or more than the asking price of the 90s stuff. Has a lot to do with living with them. No BMr is cheap to own. Some just cost more than others.

96 -R1100, the "R" is a very cool model. It's very much like the RT but without the body plastic.
I did service and repair many BMW oil head bikes in that era as an authentic BMW schooled service tech via LA Cali training facility and what a couple interesting weeks that was
:)
Before considering a 96 era oil head you need to see service records regarding transmission bearing recalls. First they were open, then sealed.
Clutch replacement was common due to a rear main seal oil leak onto the dry clutch.
ABS? I don't think so on the 96R but if so check service records for computer faults.
Properly serviced a BMW R1100R is a very nice ride! Put a small wind screen on it

I had a airhead Bite My Wallet.... it was only good for one thing.... gobbling asphalt all day long at 75 mph with the little wife... until it broke down in the middle of ho dunk Ohio..... as I called the nearest BMW dealer.. 3 hrs away.. I looked outside the window from my hotel room at the Honda dealer and regretted I sold a very nice Cb900 to buy the BeeMer. Friends hauled it home from Mid Ohio, rental car bent me over for a additional " fee " because I wasn't going to bring the rental back... once home the local BeeMer guru had a used " ignitor " for only $500.oo.

So the grand total for a BMW owner short trip ... ..$ 1000 repair / hotel / towing + the Divorce
Was it Honda ---You meet the Nicest people on a Honda ----And then You lose them on a BMW
As I mentioned If you were to show up on a BMW .. with those I Knew then you would lose friends also.
Come to think of it I don't know anyone now either bare one that is into BMW s motorcycles
But they have a better reputation now after their sports bikes. .. Being a success. Suddenly

Perhaps something to take into account
Joking aside I would be careful if there are Injection Problems .. This is a bit newer but some ten years earlier
the injections for cars could cause problems I think the term is " Lemon "
The reputation was some worked always and forever come rain shine or winter and others never worked
Not starting ..High petrol usage and throttle hang revving .
No matter what the shop did.
The early ones Bosch was complicated things ... But this is newer and perhaps OK but I would read up on that and ask around.
Since it is specialized Bosch it might need dealer shop time .. And the cost rack up
30 k it has been standing ..if there are rust somewhere in the fuel line
We can rack up another divorce on a BMW if the negotiations is tough already..

I have to desagree ! I ride a r1100gs and a r1150gs since years and I would not exchange them for anything... Maintenance is not that hard, maybee it costs more than a Honda of the same years but the balance of the bike is just CRAZY, you ride at 1mph standing on the bike, i wait 4/5 sec fully stopped before putting a foot down... Love that bike !
