I know this really isn’t the place to sell something like this because 99% of you already have this stuff anyway. I’m having to let it go so I thought I’d try here first just in case that 1% might be looking.

For reasons I’d rather not go in to I have to let every thing XS go. Two titled and roadworthy bikes. 1975 and 1978 standard. Both bikes come with a parts bike. One 1978 roller complete. A few extra seats, fenders and tanks. Some new parts....small maintenance engine bits.

I’m asking for $3000 for every thing. I know that’s a lot of money for an XS but.......it’s only $1500 per running bike. I’m located in NC and if it’s not to far away I can help with delivery.

Some of you have seen my 75. Not pretty but a good candidate for a complete restore. The 78’s the same. But I’d jump on either and ride to the West coast.

I’m not in a big hurry and will send photos to anyone interested.

I haven’t been on here in awhile.....life’s got in the way. This was/has been the best web site I’ve ever been on. You guys we’re welcoming and very helpful no matter how lame my questions were. I’ve really enjoyed my time here and my XS’s.

Might be best to email me with questions. dad1150@aol.com

As with any “ lot” sale there are some jewels but to get them ya gota take the turds too. There are a couple of jewels in this lot.

I can’t access my email at work so don’t think I’m ignoring you if you haven’t received a reply yet.

Looks like I dropped the ball on a couple of folks along the way, I apologize for that. I’ll see what I can do if you guys are still looking. ( key and green cover)

Gordon in NC...who’s either all in or all out.

tried you e-mail however it bounced back
here is what i send QUOTE:
Hi Gordon,

I Saw your post on the XS forum ref the ’75 & ’78 bikes plus parts.
If you have time and can get me some pictures of the bikes and parts I may be interested, although I’m a good 8 hours away (I’m in Jacksonville, FL).
I’m mostly interested in stock bikes which I assume these are based on your description.
Understand you try to sell all as one lot ?
I’m out of the country until May 9th – so let me know when we get closer to that date - if still available.
The more descriptive pictures you can send, the easier it’ll be for me to determine if I’ll buy or not – too long a drive to just look at it and regret the drive ☺
regards

Not sure why my mail bounced. Been the same address for a couple of decades.

Yes, these are stock bikes. Survivors not restored. All I did to them was make them roadworthy. Tires, sprockets, chains, brakes and such.

I’ll reply to your email tonight. I could be talked into delivering to Jax. I was born and raised in Tallahassee and I’m due for a visit.

Gordon.

Sounds good - I prefer stock - and I like to do the restoration - paint is the only tough part - but so far have been able to “rebuff” to an acceptable level - especially the ‘75 star black is not something I can figure out how to make :) tried on a sample but not very successful :)

One of the “jewels” in this lot is a “almost” NOS 75 tank. It was a dealer take off because of a dent. I had the dent removed by a paint less dent pro. I’d say it’s a 98 out of a 100. It’s never had gas in it best I can tell. I have both the Green and Star Black tin ware for the 78......but none of it is perfect.

Makes me very exited - you may have a buyer as soon as I’m back in US. You can email pictures to the email I provided. Maybe I’ll be able to respond to your email then. It was an odd message I got back when I emailed. It ended up in my draft folder and is now all gone - not in sent or trash so curious if it eventually went through.

FWIW from a forum newbie, I have known Gordon Gray for 20 years and done business with him on multiple occasions. Although I have never had the opportunity "yet", to meet him in person, he has been one of the bedrocks of BritBike.com for as long as I have been on that site (2001 to present). In fact, the first part I ever purchased from another member on BritBike was from Gordon. He is one of the best guys you can deal with and really is one of the "good" guys as he often attributes to others. From another former Floridian.

I can back up Troop (JonW) to the hilt on what a good guy Gordon is.

When I bought the late RobinC's black 1978 XS650E Standard from his widow, it needed a tank and all of the other tins needed paint. I had my heart set on the pretty 1978 green that was on just a few of the XS650Es that year, but I had never actually seen any green tins in person and nobody knew what the paint code was for ordering purposes.

Gordon (amazingly) sent me a spare '78E tank that he had AND and he loaned me an NOS green sidecover so that I could match the paint colour . I had a local bodyshop supplier use their special colour-matching camera on the sidecover and it turned out to be a dead-ringer for a 1970s German General Motors Opel colour. I bought the paint and sent the sidecover back to Gordon. Then I sent the paint and all of my tins to Jim of this forum and he has now painted everything to perfection. Now, if only the danged border would open......

All of that aside, I have met Gordon at the Vintage Yamaha Rally and seen and heard his very nice bikes. He is a true gentleman and an absolute prince in being generous and totally upfront on deals. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to purchase that lot of two bikes and accompanying parts from him and, if I may say, his asking price is absolutely fair in my view.

Fair winds Gordon - you deserve that and more.

I'm humbled by the kind words......thank you fellows.

The 1978s were purchased from fellows on this site. They came exactly as described. The Green one is the roller and the Black one is on the road.......with a few ( but stock) changes. I really wasn't ready for this and need to gather more photos. The parts bikes are........well in parts. They are bare frame with matching engines. Photos of other tanks and a current photo of the Black 1978 to follow.

Gordon, been thinking about you for awhile.
Sure am praying that what you are up to is for the better!
I remember how you so like those Black/Gold XS's and were the best to trade parts with.
I am sure that whoever picks up your XS's is very fortunate.
Well, Here is a current Black/ Gold that is a rowdy rider.

Hey Gordon,

You gotta do what you gotta do. been a pleasure to have you on the site.

I think your selling your self to short. You could tack on another $1000.00 and it would still be a good deal.

best endeavors for the future.

Here is a thread with the 75B and a pink Flamingo..............if anyone wants to get to know the bike

Beautiful bike Machine!!!
The photo of me on the 75 was taken during the XS rally. I was 300 miles or so from home. Because of work I had to leave late for the rally........getting to the campground around 1 am.....that's how much I trusted that bike and still do. I'm not going to say it couldn't use a freshen up.....but it's pretty solid as is. The Black 78's been on the road.....I just haven't ridden it as much as the 75. But the 78 is a solid bike too.
More photos to follow.

I never went into the vintage motorcycle hobby to make money:bike::heart::bike: My business plan is buy high....and then give it away.

I mean every word I've said about this site. Best ever and it's been said I've been on other sites for a while. If I had a question......the search function worked like a charm. You guys with the MANY photos, written info and your willingness to share could walk a man through the XS with ease. You never let me down. I'm going to miss my XSs. After they've been sitting for awhile and I jump on one........it reminds me again how much fun they are to ride. I'm just completely out of room and my focus has always been BSA unit singles. My shops getting to complicated and because of it ALL the bikes are suffering. Keeping vintage on the road is not for the weak and you need to know your limits.

I know I could piece out the good stuff........there's no way I could actually throw away the bad stuff....I just don't have it in me......so I'm making it a deal but you gota take it all, lock stock a barrel. The only thing I want to keep is a set of carbs for the shelf, a set of tank badges to go with it and the special tools I made to work on them. Everything else goes.

More photos......I'll get in the sheds tomorrow, hopefully. The hard bags......are another set like on the 75 w/mounting plates but no decals. I also have a couple of sets of period correct hard bag ( Shoei) with mounts....photos when I get into the sheds. That's a photo of the Black 78 as it sits now. The tape are reminders for me, to align the wheels ( new sprocket set and chain) and add oil ( installed Mikes starter kit) Clutch side needs to be buttoned up ( that's where I stopped) Yea, that's chrome engine covers....I hate polishing. The yellow tank.....is off a special and I have matching side covers for it....new petcocks on it too. Corvette Yellow.

Got a few more photos, only one shed left and it's the bones of the parts bikes mostly ( photo's tomorrow) I updated the photo of the small new bits. Still need an updated photo of the "almost" NOS 75 tank and the collection of side covers.

The Shoie bags are correct for the time period.....come with keys. The mounts for the Yamaha bags pictured in an earlier photo are on top of that tote.

This other stuff is used.....and looks it. Emgo (Mikes?) mufflers I got off a friend thinking they would be quieter than my stock......but they weren't so they're used but nice. The engine is out of the 78 standard roller.....that I "think" somebody wanted to make a HS out of????? The 75's parts bike engine is in bits. I used some on my runner and I took stuff apart on it as a learning tool.....I'd say it's 90% complete.

More later, Gordon.........who just lost focus.

UPDATE!!! I'm keeping that front wheel. But I'll throw in a couple of new cafe type bars to take it's place. Photos later.

Just a couple more and I'll stop for now.

I think I'm keeping the laced up front wheel and the 75's parts bike front end, complete. If I live to be 100 I might be able to graft it onto one of my BSA unit single frames......already started on that but got stopped ( pun intended). I got reminded about it digging through this stuff. I know the 78's is an upgrade but it'll be on a bike with less that 500cc and not ridden in anger.....so the 34mm should do fine?

Okay those side covers look much better in the photo than they really are. The Green one without a decal is NOS.......the rest are used with the usual nicks and bruises. 10 footers. I think I have some more.....photos later.

650Skull........thank you for that. The pleasure has been all mine. I know this is going to be one of those things I'll regret later on down the line but I kinda lost focus on my main love and those bikes have been suffering ever since........so I have to do something. I can't tell you how many times I looked through your ID thread........more than I want to confess to. I'm not just blowing smoke when I say this is simply the best site I've ever been on......my beloved BB.com is getting better but a lesson in how to make a search option work would sure help. Two many, Marty, 5twins, Gary........the whole crowd.....what a show.

Things change for a reason.......I KNOW I'll miss my XSs.

Gordon

I know this has been kinda pieced together.......sorry for that. Ever NEED to do something but not really WANT to?
To clear up some confusion.......we are talking about 5 different bikes here.
1. 1975B Titled in my name and running
2. 1978E Titled in my name and running (dressed in Black)
3. 1978E Title but not in my name 98% complete roller ( Green, purchased off this site)
4. 1978E Parts bike, dissembled probably 80% complete? Title but not in my name.
5. 1975B Parts bike, dissembled probably 80% complete. No title

As much as I hated to use the old photo of the 75......I hated the idea of moving all the stuff to get a photo of it as it sits today in the same spot. My wife foster's dogs for a hobby.......we have a litter of 7 that spend nights in the garage. The poor bikes are all covered up until Monday when the puppies leave. That oil drip is gone. NOTE TO SELF.......buy your younger brother a motorcycle so he'll quit borrowing yours......or get a younger brother who if you insist he change the oil.....does....then says 'You didn't tell me it needed a new drain plug washer too"

The parts bikes are just that.....in parts.....some photos of that next.
