New here, need some help!!

Okay 650skull I thought that too and I looked up some stuff and decided to used marvel mystery oil to dump in, just because alot of things I read everyone said that's what they like best for it and it's not thick and black like oil. I did put the plugs back in afterwards and let it sit a bit, then tried to kick it.was locked up for a bit. Smoother now though, thinking maybe it was all crud filled and I think maybe poured in a bit too much ha. Should I still do that team, with it kicking better? My carbs are so freaking clean on a side note just waiting for the kit in the mail to build it back together.

I do agree w you janP. Was skeptical at first about even the oil, never heard about dumping some on spark plug holes. The marvel oil even has on the bottle itself to pour into spark plug which is why I went that route. I'm thinking the green is gone, I have only seen in it the carb float bowl so far, and hoping maybe it ran it's course thru and was stuck there... If I'm lucky. And the funny you mentioned the oil part, I actually ordered a new gasket and sump filter because I figured if I'm doing all this now to the carbs might as well do that to, worst case scenario is it's good and I bought it for nothing but figured since I don't know what in the name of god went on with this bike beforehand might as well just change it lol.

Team out of curiosity, what do you use it for besides this? Never heard of it before but read alot of good about it and just wondering the used since have alot left

Breaking loose stuff . It it's oil with a solvent infused that's a great penetrating oil. I have a pair of cylinders soaking in it now trying to free up a frozen engine.

I think your engine will run . Might smoke some but will get better with some miles to wear everything in.

Didn't know that, would definitely be good to keep on hand then! And I sure hope so it runs. Side question, when I kicked the bike after the marvel oil, it came out of the holes where the carbs were. Will that be a problem once the carbs are rebuilt and cleaned etc, will it gunk up the carbs at all or cause issues? Forgot to ask that earlier

So one thing I keep forgetting to mention is the fact my advanced rod doesn't snap back the way itshould. Cleaned it, bought new springs, greased it.. is there a way to upload videos on here that I could show you what I mean?

Okay it did! Alright so here's my question. What do I do to get this to snap back, brand new springs, completely taken apart and cleaned and greased(was gross) and put back togrther. Lines are both where they need to be.. been servicing everything waiting for my carbs parts to come in, and just can't get this to snap back!!

There is a Service routine for a Bushing inside the Cam
Please read thereabouts if not completed

So I cleaned my tank.. the vinegar trick I read everywhere made it worse honestly.. so my question is should I reseal this tank or do you think I can get away with just adding a filter between the fuel lines?

FWIW my feeling is that opinions vary widely on the subject of sealing tanks. If a tank has holes and is leaking, you gotta do something. But if a tank has light surface rust and doesn't leak, I would be inclined to wash out with maybe petrol and 2-stroke oil, put back on the bike, fill with petrol and run with in-line filters.

Others will no doubt disagree, and no doubt some sealing systems are better than others, but I have seen a lot of cases where in the end the seal becomes the problem

Your tank is very clean. Use as is, with a filter, unless it is leaking. But get that engine running then you will have an idea as to what is worth investing in the project. I like Raymond's mention of 2-stroke oil because it burns off easily so doesn't generally foul spark plugs. It is a good choice when doing a compression test for this same reason.

Thanks guys! Yeah I actually agree with you about the not sealing.. I see alot of things saying that as sealing is good and can prevent rust, it isnt as easy as it sounds. Some say if you get into thick certain places it can flake off into the gas, etc.. and the tank is clean imo, except for the end of the tank (of course the part I can't physically get a picture of). It's darker thick rust, and I'm going to have to use a rust remover to get it because the vinegar just didn't do the trick and it's more than just the flash rust but only one spot, about the size of a business card(a little smaller but can't think of another comparison). Will marvel mystery oil suffice? I read alot of people coat the tank after cleaning with it, and even add some to the fuel. Thank you guys so much! I am slowly on the way to getting it running I think, carbs are spotless and rebuilt, bike is rewired, switched to battery instead of capacitor, cleaned and dumped fuel tank, changed fuel line and filter, and then I am going to change the oil and sump filter etc and see how it goes from there lol

Hey guys! So update. Been swamped at work haven't gotta to get the bike back together yet. But I've been reading forums and stuff off and on about the bike, and I keep seeing stuff that's saying to use a battery on a kickstart bike I need certain parts like a starter not kickstart or something? Maybe I'm reading too much into it or getting myself confused, but can I definitely run the kickstart with an electric ignition with a battery without any aftermarket parts?

Like I'm thinking the part they're talking about is the reg? Or they're trying to convert from non kickstart to kickstart only lol. Like I said, it's just random chat forums I find and everything so maybe I'm wrong

Like you said, might be you're confusing yourself reading all these forums. There's a massive amount of information and opinion on the internet. Some is right, some is wrong, wish I knew the trick for knowing which is which.

FWIW, I run Boyer ignition, 12V battery and always kick start the bike. Still have the electric starter fitted for crisis use, so to speak.

Okay so basically, I can have an electric starter but it isn't completely necessary? Yeah I'm new to forums to I'm trying to learn what's wacky and what's going to work lol
