I have what I believe to be an '82 XS650 'Heritage Special'. It has the swing arm shown in the two pictures. However, clearly missing are the 'Rear Arm Ends' or 'Swing Arm End Caps'....depending on who you're speaking with. If you've got a set you can part with, please let me know, and many thanks!!

Quick edit: It appears this may not be the 'stock' swing arm for my '82. I guess this swing arm was used on earlier bikes as well as on the 750? In any event, if I can get a couple of the end caps, I'm good. If not, then I guess I'm replacing the swing arm???

If you can't find 'em, it wouldn't be all that hard to make some. They're just mild steel. Using just a hacksaw, file and drill would be all it would take. Might be on the tedious side, but entirely doable.

Tek & Chew,

Thanks guys......but I think I got it handled. Sorry for the late response, but I had to see if what I came up with actually worked. It did! So, as of today I got the end blocks installed, a chain on the bike, and the proper adjustments made.

I really appreciate the offer from both of you! I just don't like to take advantage of people's generosity if I don't actually need to. I found a set of these on ebay, ordered 'em, and they arrived a day ago. Got them installed today......so, all good here!!

Again, I REALLY appreciate the offer to help! If there's anything you guys need, please hit me up! Ya never know...... I might just have it!

Thanks again!!

Hotel,

My bike actually had the two adjusters you referenced above. What was missing were the two 'blocks', or end-caps that fit into the end of the swing arm. Not all XS650s had this type of design at the swing-arm end, and to be honest about it, this is the first and only one like this I've ever had. But, without these blocks, the adjuster bolts have no where to 'land' and hence nothing to push back against. So, no adjusting possible. But, I did find a set on ebay, and while I probably got gouged on them, they're now in the bike. They were actually quite easy to install. All I had to do was pull the wheel fully to the rear and back the adjuster bolts out, then these blocks just dropped in and fit into the swing-arm axle opening. Then just slid the wheel foreward, installed a new chain, and then just tightened the adjusters until proper tension on the chain was achieved. I don't know if Mike's sells these or not...... I don't recall seeing them, but I'm also not sure how hard I looked for them there. The ones I got were OE Yamaha parts, still in the plastic bags. I think I paid $12 each for them, plus shipping. But, had to have 'em!

Anyway, thanks for the above reference. Ya never know when it too will come in handy!! Tom D.
