running into an issue on my 1981 xs650. I have a PAMCO ignition but a stock charging system, which is brushes. so instead of a CDI box i have the ignition through the cam. ever since then my bikes been overcharging. i looked into getting the new PMA charging system and it said that it only works with the ignition through the cam on models 80-84. so im thinking that maybe its vise versa, and i need a PMA charging system from mikesxs in order for my bike to work properly. thanks for the read. any thoughts/ideas would be great! if you want pics of bike let me know, its a scrambler/cafe racer.

Charging and ignition are two different systems. Your Pamco covers the ignition. You just need to figure out why your (stock) charging system is overcharging. It's probably the regulator, but there's a troubleshooting guide in the Tech section. Follow that and it'll most likely lead you to your problem.

jim - i didnt check to see if my regulator was bad, but i plugged in a diffirent one, and its still overcharging

upon reading the tech section, it said that connecting the green wire to ground bypasses the regulator, and allows full power to the battery. i think thats what occuring somehow. will check tmrw, thanks
