Gaging interest in this. A friend has offered to build a plug and play replacement for the starter safety relay for my ‘76 XS with a PMA. Will prevent accidental starter engagement once the bike is running. I believe what he is building will fit most versions of our bikes even with conventional charging systems. Won’t do anything for starter run on though (if the starter safety relay actually causes this). Estimated cost would be under $50 USD plus shipping. Post up if interested and I’ll let him know the level of interest to see if it’s a project worthwhile pursuing.

Don't sound all that good. A 5 prong lighting relay can be used.
Hook the r/w wire that has power to terminal 30, hook the other r/w wire to 87A. This will send power to the starter relay. This allows you to start the bike.
Hook the yellow wire from the alternator or run a wire from one leg of a PMA to Terminal 85, hook 86 to ground. This will trip the relay once engine starts and is running.
Any time the bike is not running power can flow, once the bike starts power from the alternator trips the relay.
This prevents the starter from working when the engine is running.
I have collected these relays from auto salvage yards while looking for other parts. A lot of these on cars are rated higher than the relays from the parts stores. Can be up to 80 amps. Only a few bucks each.
I have 20 or so.

Thx Leo, I think your relay would be ok if it wasn’t AC coming out of the PMA.

Anyway, seems like there isn’t any interest so I’m telling my friend to move on to the next project.

^I've noticed a bit of disconnect between PMS and anything that isn't plug and play. Also noticed many threads where they have difficulties with a starter lockout. Might be a chance at a cheaper article whose main value is the right connector on it. Make one, take sexy photos, and see if there's any interest in the classifieds. Don't make any up front, just use money from orders to make them, but don't tell anybody. It's how Apple started...
