Did you know...

I remember when I had my XT500, I absolutely could not go home without swinging through this dirt field near my house that had a couple small dirt hills that were just made for low jumps and cheap thrills! :laugh2:
Then about a year later I had my first XS650, I used to go out of my way to hit this side street that had a very sudden elevation change. I’d build up my speed and I’d fly off the high side about 6 or 7 feet before touching down , it used to make me feel like Evel Kneivel!

When I was in Germany, I had 4 routes to get home. Each one had a few variable to to them. Going home could take 15 min to hours. LOL. Around here some routes have variables to make a ride take a hour to all day.

FB this morning: Great deal on a Sprinter (motorcycle hauler) van 65 miles away but no direct route, all county roads, took WJL cuz well the new rear tire needed to get "scrubbed in". Got there and the SOB had sold the van an hour earlier. So nothing to do but turn around, ride back home via MORE back roads. 85F sunshine, perfect riding in a light jacket. Wasted 3 HOURS bumping around the hills and valleys in the driftless area.

that it's possible to ride a motorcycle from home to the store by the most direct route, grab what you went for, and ride directly back?

I know, right? Just crazy talk.
Nah. I did that one winter and come spring, the engine was farfing and spluttering from the short journeys. Since then I go the long way around, making a minimum trip of 20 miles to the store and ten miles back instead of the five mile to and fro. Keeps the plugs clean and me sharper.

Never tried it DE, But i'll take your word for it. One thing, NEVER take a woman with you otherwise you'll never get the original thing you went for. Then you'll need the long diversion on the way back to try and remember what u went for in the first place.
Love Kop's comments. Wonder what his theory is to the above.

Well, even if were possible to go straight there, maybe buy sommat or have the MoT test (annual safety inspection), and then ride straight home again by the same route, that would surely be what they mean by an unnatural practice?

Boy, and Howdy! Drives Mrs. Downeaster batshit - send me to the store with a list, I come home with what was on the list. "Did you get blah blah blah?" Nope, wasn't on the list...

went to store today at 2pm (eastern time USA)
store 3 blocks away
returned to home 2hrs later
wife mad

all I could say was
"sorry, bike was running great!"

I tell Mrs. Downeaster "I'm going to xxx. Should be back in an hour, but I'm taking the bike so..." If I get REALLY carried away, I call her and let her know.

Ooooo, kinky! I LIKE it!
