VM 36 Float Lever

VM 36 independent floats. Is the the correct way for the float lever? Or should I get a straight lever?

What should the float level be. My Mikuni manual shows a straight arm. Never seen a lever like this. Should the spring/pin be compressed?

There are two types of lever used in different VM separate float carbs. Mikuni's schematics show only the straight type. Your stepped lever is correct for the VM36. Float height range for the VM36 is 17-19 mm. The spring must not be compressed when inspecting float height. Measure height of the lever at the point where it contacts the horizontal pin on the float. On this type of lever, adjust by moving the arms of the lever, not the tang.
 
Looks like somebody already messed with the float lever tang, it's way out of position. Good luck with that.
Thanks for the info. I will fix the tang and adjust the float level. Where is the measurement taken at? End or middle or the lever?
 
Measure from the point where the lever contacts the horizontal pin on the float. Set the lever gently on the float needle pin to avoid compressing the spring.
 
Since the tang has been moved, float level may not be an accurate indicator of fuel level. You might consider making or buying a float bowl plug with a hose barb in it to inspect fuel level directly with a sight tube (clear hose). With the carb level and connected to a fuel source, fuel should rise no higher in the tube than the lower line of the carb body, and no lower than 2 mm. below the line.

My 20 year old Sudco Mikuni Tuning Manual has instructions for level adjustment on independent float systems. I just checked the current (5th) edition of the manual, and found that some editorial twit had seen fit to delete that information. So it goes....

Here is where I set the float level. I did fix the tang and adjust the arms.
