Hi, nearly finished sorting out one of my XS650. The frame number is S650-020857 and engine S650-011872. From what I can work out from numbers found on the internet it seems to be an XS1-F. The fork ears were candy gold, it has 4 bolts on the cam chain adjuster, link pipe on the head.

The forks in the parts manual are late Xs1-F as they have mudguard stay brackets by the axle.

according to my parts manual neither of the XS1 or the XS1F have those front stay mounts at bottom :wink2: as they were bolted to two lugs on the inside of the legs, what you have there look like XS2 legs.
one way of telling if you have XS1 or XS2 legs is the XS1 are chrome over steel legs and the XS2 are alloy, least that's what I have had in the past :bike:.

Thanks for the pics and comments, particularly the XS1-F with the stays. I notice the bike in that picture has a round tail light, tried to clarify this in the parts lists but can't find anything. I have put a round light on mine but still wondering if it should have the rectangularly one.

from a parts manual.........doesn't distinguish the difference on the guard for the XS1B/F to a particular model/country. make up your own mind or get more confused.........

I think you can't determine that by way of the forks / guard as that "new type" occurred on both XS1-B and XS1-F.

Generally XS1-B was sold in North America so if you imported it from there it's probably XS1-B.
The XS1-F was sold in Australia and parts of Europe etc. (but not UK, which started with the XS2).

The XS1-B has a round tail light, red rear blinkers, no strap across the seat, & has front blinkers are fixed on top of the forks.
The XS1-F has a rectangular tail light (same as XS1), yellow rear blinkers, has strap across seat, & has the front blinkers each side of the headlight.

Also the XS1-B should have an ID tag on the steering neck as well as the number stamped, whereas the XS1-F doesn't have the tag (but still has the number stamped).

that is a good description thanks txxs, I guess that made mine as a B model as I imported it from your country, I did have the strap over the seat but thats a replacement seat from Mikes Xs, my rear indicators were red and the front mounted on top. of note all the indicators were rechromed originals they did have slight pitting but the guy who did the chrome work ( whole bikes worth $2310 US$ ) can do that funny metal casting stuff the risk is in how deep is the pitting.
