Swingarm Bolt

I have been trying to get the swingarm bolt out. I tried heat gun and then torch and no luck. I also used my five pound hammer. I messed up the shaft and have still no luck. I did put penetrating oil with no help. Do I just need more heat or is their another way of getting this out. I already flailed the end of the shaft real bad. Maybe I need a press.

I've had good luck getting stuck shafts out using an air hammer with a blunt tip. All I have is the cheapie air hammer from HF but it does the trick .....

Harbor Freight has the Air Hammer but the hammer bit only comes in a $55 set. Did you buy the set or did you just but the bit?

I many years ago had to drill and grind one of those out
Put in many hours of work at least half a day including using a full Size sledge hammer
Ruining drills.
Dont remember exactly but if I recall right it was an axle going into a hole with tight fit
when those parts got worn there was a possibility for the axle to drop out of the hole
a bit and hitting it did not help because it was out of the bore a little
I probably used the wrong method . But I had big problems doing it

I have used this HF air hammer for many years, always does the job.
In this circumstance, you could buy the "chisel set" for 6 bucks and just cut off the chisel tip from one of the bits and use the stub as a hammer. Should do the trick, plus remove the wheel and shocks and move the swing arm up and down, as has been suggested.
 
I used the air hammer for about 10. No luck. I also used heat with the air hammer. Did not move at all.
 
I think that's kinda hard to say. It will take as long as it takes, lol. I think if I didn't see any movement in about a minute of so, I'd put more heat to it and add more penetrating oil.
 
Told the story on another thread - the swingarm bolt was stuck on my SR500. Being young and foolish - I'm old and foolish now - I belted the end with a big hammer till the end was mushroomed so the nut would not go back on but failed to move the bloody spindle. So I rode around on the bike for a few days with the nut absent till the handling deteriorated noticeably, another round with the BFH and this time it shifted. Not an approved method.

I tend to keep spindles lubed these days.
 
Sounds like you've got a really, really stuck one there, lol. I'd just keep at it. Sometimes an overnight soak with penetrating oil helps. If you do get it to start moving out, drive it back in, then out, in, etc. Working it back and forth like that will help free it up.
 
Do you have a spare swingarm? You could, theoretically, drill a small hole or two spaced out on the swing arm where the bolt runs through to get more of the penetrating oils in there. Can always weld it back up after. Alas, that may be a last resort option. While using the air hammer did you try moving the swing arm up and down?
 
Well My approach was then
If you cant solve it with force more force can always solve it.
Not recommending it .. depends on how it looks and ability to hit the right spot with the sledge hammer
Applying force has the risk of destroying it
Oil -- Heat --- Grinding -- Drilling --Hitting --Patience .. And not getting angry giving it the final misplaced sledge hit.
 
Time and patience are your best option. I had one that took me 4 days to get out. Did like you did the first day. penetrating fluid and the hammers got bigger as the day went on. Soak at night. 2nd day more hammering and muffler gun (air hammer). Another night of soaking. 3rd day and night repeat of 2nd day. 4th day decided it was coming out. If I had to I would hook a welder to it like they used to do to thaw frozen pipes. It would heat the bolt. I must had scared it. It broke loose. Had to keep moving it out and then back in.
I lay the frame on it's side on my lift so the head of the bolt is off the table. If you have the frame standing up it needs to be braced against something solid.
