I know we all love these old bikes, and given my bikes current state, I love to tinker. Do you own a modern bike for the sake of more reliability or to suit a certain purpose? I currently also ride a Honda Monkey, but am looking at getting another big bike soon. Been looking at a couple triumphs (they all are just so nice now), and one bike that caught my eye is the Moto Guzzi V85tt. I always loved the riding position of "Adventure bikes" and having some offroad ability. Never liked the transverse motors but for some reason lately I just can't stop dreaming of them. So, back to my original question, what else do you ride?

I had an old Guzzi. I loved it. I also drove it head on into an F150. It didn't fair too well.

What constitutes modern? I ride a 1991 Kawasaki Zephyr750. Feels very modern compared to my other rides...I guess you can't get one from a dealer anymore, but if you find one for sale I'd highly recommend it.
Good question. I'd say, maybe, last 20 years? I guess personal age really effects how something may seem. From a personal view, I see modern as Fuel Injection, longer service intervals and new enough that nothing on the bike is starting to go because of "age", and ABS.

Sorry to hear that. You're still here so at least there's a silver lining! For the longest time I always said I could never get into a guzzi. Just didn't like the way it looked or sounded, but it seems it's an acquired taste. The more you look and listen to it grows on you and you can't stop thinking about it.

Does a 1992 Harley Sportster count?............
Nope! :lmao:

A Yankee trader, love grabbing neglected bikes, fix em up, try em out, next.
I made the mistake of riding Madness right after the R1200GS, oh crap.........
After riding a FZ1000 several years ago: Wow this thing does EVERYTHING awesome, but it's about as engaging as a brand new refrigerator.
Backroaded the GS home from the camping trip last week, after about 200 miles, thought hey I know a way home that'll add a scenic twisty 50 miles, took it. ;)
I doubt I would have done that "detour"on an XS650.

Wife has a 2021 HD Streetglide. The M-8 motor on a stock platform has more power than my 08” Ultra with stage 2. I do however think my bike actually handles better. I wonder if it’s the low profile tires but if you grab a little brake at low speed with the front wheel even turned a slight bit you better be ready.

This is the most "modern" bike I owned (still own it I think) and was an absolute gem for Southern Califorinia commuting splitting lanes on the 405 freeway. Alas, I found with family, work, home improvements, the only spare time for riding was after 2 or 3 relaxing beers so wisely (I hope) I sent it with my older son to Minnesota 5 hrs away. He told me he will bring it back anytime but he wants to find an undented tank first. :)

I've got a 2006 Triumph Speed Triple now, didn't do a modern bike until about five years ago when I decided I really wanted to cut up my XS with everything up to the XS also being early 80s at youngest. The idea was that instead of just getting a second old bike then I'd get something newer and easier to do day trips on. The good/enjoyable riding areas around here are all at least an hours ride away to get to the good stuff and it just wasn't as nice doing 60-65mph for an hour on the older stuff as newer. The Triumph I have now because it is that more comfortable long distance mount than my XS and ever since I saw the Speed Triples in showrooms 2004-06 ish I thought they were awesome looking and wanted one.

I love that CB1000. That is a modern bike I could see myself riding. Have you done any mods to that, or is that basically stock-ish form?
Thanks Willis and Raymond - When I first seen it in the showroom I didnt like it much, except I could see what I could easily do to it to improve it for me. I removed the horrible license plate hanger that wrapped around the lower back wheel and put a tail tidy on it, painted the wheels white, made some smaller mirrors, fitted the acrapovic exhaust, removed the golf ball size badges from the widest part of the tank and put a little black pin stripe between the silver and red on the tank. I had only ever owned Ducatis and Triumph Truxtons before it and I had no idea I would like it so much.
Regards Ray.
