Mikey's new to him 1980 650

Oh yeah, don’t throw away your used cleaning solution, just pour it in a plastic jug and save it. The solids will settle to the bottom and you can reuse it over and over. Good stuff!

Hey Mikey! That looks like a nice ultrasonic cleaner. Reading the dimensions of the basket, it might be a tad on the small side. I’m running a crappy plastic housing Harbor Freight cleaner that is barely big enough for carburetors, sometimes I have to clean things one side at a time and then rotate the piece to get the other side. I use a solution of anywhere from 25% Simple Green 75% water, up to 50-50 ratio if I’ve got some really grungy stuff. I found the cheapest place to buy it was Walmart in 1 gallon jugs. Here’s a couple of write ups I did,

This one is just cleaning leaving the natural appearance,

And this one shows what they can look like if you’re a shine junky like me. :D

I didn't check the dimensions of the unit I just thought 2L thats big enough
They make other sizes so Ill have to measure the carbs and step up to something bigger

Looks like I got a bit of reading to do

I started to try and remove the float bowl drain plugs and 1 started to strip
I thought before you trash it completely get new ones for back up
Partzilla has a screw and washer on their parts diagram (40/41)but that aint it, mine take a 10mm wrench and they're brass
I gotta keep diggin to find the correct OEM number (mikes looks like there made out of Aluminum)View attachment 197957 View attachment 197958 View attachment 197959
I pretty well mangled up one of the float bowl plugs when I decided to put the bolt head in the vice and use the carb to unscrew it
WTH it worked one less thing to worry about

Always use a box wrench or socket on that bolt, never an open end wrench.

I used a box end on it but it started to slip right away thats why I went with vice grip and then the vice
I didn't get too wild until I knew I had new parts coming

Good practice is to never use an open end wrench on any fastener you can get a box end or socket on.

Where'd you find 'em Mikey?

I bought 2 and they fit perfect
Actually used only one as the other one came out fine
Both got the new copper gaskets from PartZilla

I've been looking on the internet and all of the sites that have a parts diagram call in a screw and not a plug
Jim do you have a Yamaha dealer nearby if so bring along one of your old plugs with you so they know what you need
Ya might get lucky and the dealer can find one
They can check out all the dealers inventory and maybe one of them will have one
I can't remember what part I needed but the dealer found 1 in some other dealers inventory
This was a part I couldn't find on the internet

Yes, I was going to mention alcohol. Maybe kerosene might work too. It may take a little soak time to penetrate.

Nothing I'm going to have to Google it. On glass or something not a big deal
