Buzzy's revival: '82 Heritage Special

speedo is magnet driven. If the speedo side of the magnet is dragging that could account for the sluggish speedo reading.

Im not sure and i haven't got a clear pic of the drive close to where the speedo cable slips into the gauge. What i see from this pic is the Odometer and trip meter is driven off of the lower part of the drive that connects to the speedo cable. ......cog on right...... on long shaft with the screw that drives the odometer

This is separate from the speedo, (MPH/KPH), needle reading on the face

here are a couple of shots of the speedo drive its self. The cable drive side spins, and this, due to its close proximity spins the second drive for the speedo clock needle...........If this is clogged in any way it will slow the needle on the face

@650Skull thank you for the pictures. I think you have given me two locations to clean/inspect: 1. the magnet is located on the hub of the front tire right? 2. At some point I can open the gauge and clean there.
What do you recommend for cleaning? I was thinking brake cleaner for the magnet and Letrolux or a terminal type cleaner for inside the housing.

Regarding speedo's.
If one has torn one down to the point of holding the guts in hand the mileage can be reset by moving the little plastic catches aside and then turning the number wheel with an eraser for grip, one at a time until the desired reading is achieved.
Doing this for deception is highly frowned upon, akin to replacing a high mileage speedo with a low mileage speedo - of which I've seen.
Doing this to reflect an engine rebuild is tolerable, imho, as long as the disclosure is made if the bike is sold.
Doing this to show actual bike mileage on a replacement speedo due to failure is acceptable.
Other opinions may vary.

In Texas tampering with a odometer is a serious crime.
Not sure of the specifics but have seen several arrests in the news over the years. In fact Mike Wallace of 60 minutes did a story on Houston used car dealers back in the 70's.

Most? states do not require an odometer disclosure after the vehicle is 10 years old. Cuz well it gets meaningless. Anyone want a 72 norton showing 240 miles on the ODO? A speedo rebuilder I worked with on different bike said tell me what you what the odo to show and I'll set it.
Any Wisco title for a vehicle over ten years old shows "exempt" in the mileage box.

Everywhere I've experienced there is a place on the Bill of Sale/Title to show that the odometer is invalid. There's no foul once that box is checked.

Is Friday, the day you are leaving on vacation, the best day of the week to arrive home and find your bike on its right side? If it's not the best day for that, I did it wrong.
The mirror is toast but I do have a spare round one. I just need to remove the windscreen to put it on.

Speaking of the new windscreen, the lower, inner corner broke off and the blinker lens is busted. the light still works but the shank is slightly bent like the other side.

Buzzy started right up though and I took him to the back yard where he is better protected from the wind.

Tomorrow, while I am away, I will receive the engine guards from @Wingedwheel. My neighbor is standing by to receive them in my absence. Maybe if I had them installed Buzzy would be less damaged.

Honestly folks, I am not going for any type of world record with the number of times my bike tips over.

But this is twice in one month?
:poo:
Sorry man, have a good vacation.

We got these “drop guards” for the wife’s bike. They keep the chrome/bar from getting messed up if the bike tips over. I can attest to the fact that they do work.View attachment 201994
Wait, what? crash bar, crash bars?
I do see the point, I guess.
Can I protect those somehow? :bike:

My 79 BMr got knocked over once. I couldn't fault the center stand, a tornado came through when I was at work. When it hit I was a couple of floors up in the feed mill. Existing times! Roar of a train, building shaking like a earth quake and the lights went out. First thought was bed over and kiss your ass goodbye.

If you look close you can see the guards mounted to the engine/crash bars, the manufacturer also states that they can be ground and re-polished if they get scratched
