That looks like a seriously cool project. Buddy had one when it was new. Dependable as sunrise it was. What's your plans for it?

Just hauled one of those home from Ohio, was my wife's mother's, she rode till she was 70, dropped it and the sons basically found reasons to not finish the repairs. I have the fairing which is repairable, found a windscreen on ebay, she had the small trunk shown in the photo, the pillion seat with rear rack and sissy bar and the large trunk along with the fitted matching luggage. Going to get it together for my wife to ride, probably peppier than her 750 Shadow

CX500 getting a lot of love on here. 1980 deluxe was my second bike. Rock-solid...kinda regret selling it, as I was the second owner and it only had 10,000mi when I pulled it out of some dude's barn in northern WI....he bought it new cos he ran out of gas on the way to the county fair and wanted a bike with a bigger tank.

50hp @9000, and 40lb/ft @ 7000 revs compared to 43hp @5500, and 44lb/ft @3000 revs for the shadow your wife is going to have to adjust her riding style.

Nice bike and back story, it is now an heirloom.......I'm sure your mother in-law will be happy to se her daughter rock up on the bike

We are missing the "cool" part of the CX/GL. 50 HP at 9000 rpm with PUSH RODS. That is cool with a capital K

Seller's Description
I got this bike as a barn find hoping to get it running. I belive it's a 1977 or 1978. I almost got it running after I put oil in it but there was no spark. I have purchased some parts and have them sitting on the side. The motor VIN matches the frame VIN but there was not a title when I bought it. I have the air box and a new filter. And I bought 2 new fuel petcock valves. I only want what I put into it and purchased for. Thanks! $400 OBO

They were good solid bikes back in the day. No idea on parts availability nowadays though. The sound of a triple always gives me a woodie if that helps... :geek: :laugh2:

Might be real tough to get a replacement ignition box if that's the issue. Think all the specials were electronic some of the 77 standards had points.
I'm not a fan boy of the triples, others like em.

I think it is the ignition then maybe? Is that hard to find expensive or? I guess I can look on ebay.

He said he can turn it over and it cranks but there is zero spark, maybe its just something cheap and easy?

There were issues, not sure which years. It would make a lovely sounding Hurricane replica with enough cubic$
