Without looking....
if it's a TCI box gone south, it's most likely an unobtanium part. Don't know if there's aftermarket iggys available. Maybe a Trident aftermarket iggy will work? Dunno...

Maybe one of these could be the culplit to the xs750 not having spark then?

Still at $300 ~ for the bike is it a good deal, or even a steal? The gauges are nice, show 15k miles, tires seem good, he said he bought new petcocks and a new air filter and maybe theres a few more parts. Edit: here is a pic to show on the new page here.

As I recall from knowing Yam mechanics back in the day the early XS750 triples used a chain primary drive with no provision for tension management, if ridden hard the chain would stretch and saw a hole in the cases. Probably fixed by the time the Special was introduced and definitely before they upped it to 850

Can i get some quick advice before tomorrow please! If I can get this for 3-400 is this a good deal? I dont know anything about the 750
heres ad:
Seller's Description
I got this bike as a barn find hoping to get it running. I belive it's a 1977 or 1978. I almost got it running after I put oil in it but there was no spark. I have purchased some parts and have them sitting on the side. The motor VIN matches the frame VIN but there was not a title when I bought it. I have the air box and a new filter. And I bought 2 new fuel petcock valves. I only want what I put into it and purchased for. Thanks! $400 OBO

These XS750 Specials are worthless. They bring no money. If it runs well, it could make a nice café racer, but paying more than $200 for it would be in error, IMHO. They aren't bad bikes, it's just that nobody wants them.

Thanks, he said he would do $310, but after sleeping on it today i woke up and realized I have too many projects. And it makes sense to devote time into bikes that have more value and i like more. Its like opening a can of worms, where does it stop? How much money do i want to put into it.

I recently bought a very beat up GL500 for $180, I think even that bike is a better platform maybe.

I think I am going to pass on that XS750, I would soooooo much rather find a XS650 special twin! I really like those, with the tubeless tires and electronic ignition its actually a pretty practical daily driver.

I don't understand the sellers comment "I almost had it running after I put oil in it, but there was no spark"? If you have no spark, how can it almost run???
Using his "almost" logic...
I almost did the ton this morning.... uphill.... into a gale.... on one cylinder.... almost... :cautious:

Nobody who does due diligence is going to give $300 for that, running or not. Not running, free is too much.

Looks like a " Niagara Falls " Size oil leak on the left side onto the pipe and under the bike
I like the triples known two that had them
but in this case Mr Jetmech most likely has the evaluation right " Almost starting "
Can be the black hole where all the savings goes.

Not even worth $300 in parts? The gauges are worth about $50, wheels look fine. If it had the nicer 750 tank that would make it much better!

But yeah, if it has a bad oil leak and mystery engine, compression etc its just a lot of work. I need to be sure I love the bike otherwise its never going to get worked on OR RISE IN VALUE if I just store it.

Ok whats this worth? It needs a new battery, spark plugs, and gas tank has rust i guess making it leak, so needs that fixed. I dont have much experience with specials.

Price $700 pretty firm, is that good?

Needs new battery.plugs and rust in the tank..........
So the bikes not going

Till you take a battery and see what turns on, there is no way to know what needs to be done to the wiring

Rust in the tank is relevant to how bad it is........... Maybe a vinegar job would be enough........ May not be a hole in it could be petcocks that leak

Will need
carbs overhauled

TCI and charging system need to be checked

Only way to give a fair price is to look at it and asses from there.........

Again, Madmaxims bike is value for money compared to buying and spending on something like this, unless this is found to be a gem in a rough..........don't think so though with the gauges removed and the mufflers, it looks like a bit of a botched dream
