Need to get a new 40 cm long front hydraulic brake hose. With my current set up it would be preferable to have the banjo fittings oriented 90 degrees to one another. Is this an uncommon configuration? My quick search on EBay showed most have the sealing faces parallel to one another. I found some that have a 90 degree bend on one of the fittings and that may work but a rotated fitting would be better. Don’t know if I’m accurately describing what I’m looking for.

Look on ebay, there a a plethora of sellers all selling hoses with different fittings, different angle banjos and so on. There are also hoses with removable screw in banjo fittings that can be oriented at any angle you like. Just be careful they meet with your countries standards, most don't have any standards at all.

The hose I have now (which is too long) has the screw on fittings. Just having difficulty finding the correct sized replacement so I thought I may go to fixed fittings. I’ll scroll through eBay a little more. Thx

There are a few options out there. The easiest are the lines and fitting that Z1 sells where you can orientate the fittings wherever you want. There is also Venhill where you can custom order a line to your specs on-line and then there is Galfer, where you would probably just need to contact them. I've used Galfer in the past for my GPz and their customer service is top notch.

Great thx.

The only way you will really get an exact custom fit and be happy is to make your own hoses.

I gave a primer on making your own brake hoses above, post # 82. The AliExpress links still work, if you can wait for the fittings to arrive. Best to plan and buy well in advance of you needing them. If you are willing to pay more the fittings can be found in the U.S.

Thx Dog, never thought of the DIY route. Will check that out too.
Had a quick look. Ali Express have quite a variety of fittings. If I could make a hose with swivel female fittings at both ends that would be perfect. Are most brake hoses on bikes 3AN size?

Yes, brake hoses are 3AN.
Once tightened, the fittings in my primer do not swivel. You orient them as you tighten, easy to do.

Watched a video on hose assembly. I’m quite familiar with the process as I used to make larger braided SS hoses in my past life. Same fittings and process. Looked online and fitting price is good but as mentioned, delivery is slow. The hose was however quite expensive. The first offering I stumbled on was close to $100 Cdn shipped, but that was for 10M. I would probably only use about 2M max for my project so it would be a waste to buy so much. If my fellow Canucks were interested in buying some of the remaining 8M, perhaps it might be doable. If anyone is interested please chime in. I could also ship to the US but don’t know if that would be cost effective.

Couple quick examples I found, there are probably others. These sellers are reasonable and have different lengths and offerings, and ship time is really not that bad. If you need something really fast, buy a long made-up hose from a North American seller, cut off the ends, and use the fittings you want.

Sorry who is Z1?

Before these were bought up by Revival, I sourced brake hose parts from Z1. They had Goodridge hose and fittings. Good stuff.

The Revival parts folks ship very fast. They're all under one roof.

Checked out Z1 and they had the hose I wanted amd Iirc it was less than $15usd. Sounded like an ok deal until I ran it through the shipping calculator. They wanted $50usd shipping via usps 😱. That short hose would now cost me $85cdn landed and closer to $100 if the feds decided to charge me Cdn taxes on it. Crazy high shipping rates from outside the country suck. There’s so many great deals to buy product out of tge USA, but the shipping is killer. I managed to find something on Amazon that’s not 100% correct but I’ll have to make it work.

I think I may go the build-my-own route in the future. It may cost me near $80 initially but that should get me enough line (20') and fittings (10-12) to make 5 or 6 lines for myself. Most all the Chinese ones I've seen have the ends parallel, and that works fine for a MC with the line connection point on the front. It doesn't work well for a stock type with the line connection on the end. For that, you want/need the ends installed at 90° to one another. The first couple China lines I bought were like this. Banggood used to sell them but unfortunately they don't anymore.

Would be handy to be able to do this. Once I get the hose installed that I just ordered, I’ll look at the two lines from the calipers to the manifold block on the forks to see if I can shorten them a bit. I’ll compress the forks tomorrow to see how the existing lines are moving.

That’s the old master cylinder, it was a Chinese “Brembo” with a cheap reservoir. The new one is a Brembo 17mm radial master cylinder. Works really well with excellent feel and modulation. Has a couple of adjustments on it to to suit the rider. Clutch lever was a matching fake Brembo. Have since powder coated it black. Not sure where the manifold came from. It was installed by a po.

I have had stainless braided brake lines custom made for perhaps $60 or $70 here in Victoria by Greenline hose. Nuline is a competitor of theirs and I believe they are both Canada wide. I simply brought my old brake lines in and they replicated the length amd exact banjo fittings required. Perhaps they are in your area too? For my '74, they did this with a black cover line for me. Worked out well.
