Worst welds

I was formally trained in auto body repair decades ago. We were instructed not to use the terms Bondo or plastic filler. We were told to call it Auto Body Filler. or Body Filler for short.

Bondo got a bad rap in the early days... and that was mostly due to people not using it properly... poor prep. Today it's about as good as any filler. Arguing Bondo vs. Evercoat or others is like starting a "favorite oil" conversation.

It’s kind of like Coke, generic term. In the chopper world we called it molding. In fact I’m not using 3M Bondo, using Evercoat Gold.

"Body Putty". The first that I remember was Black Knight. It was a single stage air dry product that eventually dried hard as a rock and sanded that way too. A cousin of mine did the nose & deck of his 50Chevy coupe with it. I still have a couple tubes of R&M Green Stuff finishing putty that I used on model car builds. I used "Slick" filler. I think it was made by the Oatey corp. In 1967 it sold 4gal to the case for $12.00.

Ok, let's call it Mdogo filler, covers all bases. I bogged an OIF Triumph nice and smooth many years ago. But the Brits frame building techniques have always been very good, plus the Brits never used blind welders, so I used very little bog.

I was going to weld all the tab gaps on the TX frame, but after inspecting the frame, thought it would take a year to do that, so I just shut my eyes when dealing with the frame.

Used a generic epoxy primer and DuPont Centari "Negro Intenso" topcoat.

We don't have that here, so haven't used it. The enamels I have used have all been very slow drying and chipped edges can't be feathered prior to touching up, that's why I use acrylic lacquer: Fast drying, easy to touch up and so on, but it chips easily and it doesn't like petrol.
This time I was going to try a very thin coat of acrylic lacquer with a isocyanide free, two pack, clear.

Yep, we have our preferences for all kinds of different reasons. Me? I like Evercoat Rage Ultra. Stupid expensive but I find it cuts faster and doesnt clog paper as bad, but that's just my opinion. Today's fillers last the lifetime of the car/bike when used properly.
