'68 BSA Victor Build..... Bloody 'el mate... You 'effin daft or sommat?!?

I don't rightfully know for sure. I'm 47 and it flared up about 3-4 years ago. Now I am overweight (250) and have very high arches and very wide feet (5E shoes). Not sure why it became inflamed but I had about 2 years of severe pain where I walked like I was in my 80's. With wide feet it is hard to find good shoes that don't squeeze on the inflamed nerves. I did the Cortisone shots once, but it only relieved the pain for about a week. Just glad it has subsided.

Mine is from type 2 diabetes. Since I got my blood sugar under control it's much better. I'm also taking pregabolin once a day (down from 3 times a day) and now it always reminds me that its there, but not debilitating. BTW, I'm 63 and a bit chunky. Good luck and I hope it stays under control.

Up next... upper sidecover mount bracket.

Here's a pic of the original from one of Dana's Victors...

Original.JPG

The original is 3/32" by 1-1/2". Didn't have any. Found some 1/8" strap.... a little thicker, but close enough.
Drilled a 5/8" hole for the oddie clip...

... and a 3/32" hole on each side... cleco'd the clip in place.... good fit.

x6.jpg

Used a tape roll for the end radius and cut it out

x5.jpg

Used the big basement vise and a BFH for the bend...

... and here we are.

Obviously it's jus' stuck in place for the camera. I'll need to weld the lower bracket in place so I can mount the sidecover to it. Then I can clip the bracket to the cover to see where it should sit on the frame. Once that's sorted I can cut it down to size and weld it in place.

I used to work on the Brumos Porsche Race Team, and for what it's worth, you would have been a welcomed addition. Beautiful job.

Not much to talk about really... took the frame outside and degreased it. I'm not big on any particular degreaser... I generally jus' grab sumpin' and see how it does. Found this stuff sittin' on the shelf...

It's actually for my wood stove brew. A coffee can of sawdust and pour about a cup of that stuff in there. Once it saturates the sawdust, it makes an excellent fire starter.
Anyway..... this was leftovers. Poured it in a squirt bottle, a wood stick and a toothbrush. It works...

Forgot the "before" pic but the engine cradle was covered in over 50yrs of oil and grime. Nice and grime free now.

Weather this spring has been awful. That finally gave it up... yesterday and today both broke the 90's with more of the same forecast. With a little luck I can break out the sandblasting gun in the next couple of days. I'm gettin' kinda anxious to get some paint on the frame. Then the bits and pieces can start fallin' back in place.

Was takin' the bike apart a while ago and noticed these...

Pardon the focus.... two pieces of 3/4" angle welded just over the shock mounts. Weren't nothin' attached to 'em, and whoever did it decided they needed bendin' to look right and do whatever function it is they're supposed to do.... it's a mystery to me. :umm:
Anyway, the book has an excellent section on frame repair with some very detailed drawings.... they weren't drawn in. So, like the Queen of Hearts is fond of sayin'.... off wid their 'eds... much better.

Not the stock seat brackets
Was that a question or a statement?
If it was a question, no, I don't think so. At least not in any pics or drawings I've seen.
If it was a statement... whew... I certainly hope not. They were gawdawful badly done. :sneaky:

Welded in the lower bracket...

Dimensions appear to be spot on, as the tool tray fit perfectly. Well, I say perfectly... but both the homemade and upper bracket have slotted holes, so spot on is kinda relative. Anyway, it fits within the confines of the slots.

I can now fit the sidecover using the lower oddie clip...

...and here's where brain freeze set in. I can't seem to come up with an easy way to mark the upper mount so I can cut it to length. I'ma measure twice, cut once kinda guy. Think I'll sleep on this one rather than have to remake the (too short) bracket. :umm:
