A 5 bike collection

The XS1100 changed every year. The TCI was the same 1978 to 1980. The 1981 is one year only, as is the XJ1100 which is itself a one year only in the US.
Canada and Europe got the XJ1100 Maxim 2 more years..but it was unchanged from 1982...1981 and 1982 went with the electronic ignition and TCI..."10M"

The 81 SPII is going to a great home. A gas tank derust and bit of clean up, engine maint 101 was about it.
Son bought it for his 81 year old father who had this EXACT bike brand new, quit riding, family etc. then his "boys" got ahold of it. Yah-know what I mean?
Anyways dad got back to riding and really wanted to have "HIS" bike back.

And the XJ1100 lives.
It's embarassing to admit how easy it was. I had put a new battery it in a couple weeks, ago found a corroded main connector then had electrics, but other fish needed frying.
Last night I decided to see if it would start, pulled intake vacuum caps, sprayed in some carb cleaner, and it caught and ran. Then tried to hook up a test tank, the fuel lines are a bit "complex", said the heck with it, dumped several gallons of premium in the tank, and with very little cranking, it started and ran pretty good. Several rounds of start and run, a trip up and down the road and

👍

Next it'll get a fill of premium, some techron (fuel system mechanic on a bottle) and rack up about 100 miles on it. Darned thing is almost stupid nice and clean.

That is known as a tease.

worlds most complicated OLD MC fuel line system ☑️
cleverly concealed linked brakes with "some issues" ☑️
4 linked early emissions carbs that aren't fueling "quite right" ☑️
6 years of sitting, general issues ☑️
speedo going all wiggly wobbly ☑️
odd intermittent whir from front wheel ☑️
"computer controlled" warning system complete with gremlins ☑️
severe lack of wanting to spend a week sorting this crap out ☑️

The " extra parts"

Anyone need anything? ;)
I am looking for a decent set of original 1981 or later Special exhaust pipes / mufflers - right hand on my 81 Special is badly scarfed from a confrontation with pavement at some point in its past - left had looks like it was polished using sand paper - any of these in decent condition?

Theres a YICS tool that inserts from the left side of the carb bank..It has 4 rubber grommets in it spaced out to isolate each carb..You can leave it permanently installed and then resync your carbs..The throttle response is much more"crisp" and the engine is more responsive....I had one made by a member of the XS1100 forum..YICS eliminator tool...and it was the bomb! YICS ports were for emissions puroposes..so if one or more carbs were off they would all balance out with the YICS port...It actually runs better when the YICS port is blocked off...

I wish I could remember who, but someone introduced himself to the group with a lovely Special, IIRC. He said he intended to modify it and may have received some unwelcome comments. He would be a good possibility for that exhaust if someone reading this remembers. I think he was on the west coast.
