So I have a 1972 yamaha Xs650, guy I bought it from said it had been sitting for around 10 years. First thing I did was pull the tank & change the petcock, derust the tank, I pulled the carbs & flushed the lines, let the carbs soak for hours in cleaner, I have aftermarket makuni (I know I spelt it wrong lol) carbs, I have compression, I have spark, I have fuel, still can’t get it to start. It’s a kickstart only, I’m just at a loss right now. Any help would be appreciated!

Yup pictures especially inside; LH cam cover and round cover LH side of the crank.
Battery or capacitor?
If capacitor replace it with a battery or jumpers to a battery for starting. If it's a capacitor it's PMA.
any lights should be turned off to start.
Pull sparkplugs heat em good with propane torch.
check compression.

Just throwin this out there…

I once had a 78 years back that pretty much did the same thing (all signs pointed to this thing should run), turns out the advance rod was in upside down (180deg off). It’s quite easy to do but it puts your bike firing 180 out.

Just a dumb one that had me pulling my hair on a bike for weeks.

I didn’t put the bike together so it was really bad to finally track it down to that but once flipped, fired right up and purred like a kitten.
