Post a Photo of your Dog

Not an XS but is a 650 and the building is not a barn but it is old'ish.........

Cane cutters barracks. Have these dotted around up here, a few left. Have seen one converted to a modern day house. Had 4 bedrooms a Lounge/kitchen and an outhouse for laundry, shower and toilet. Rainwater tanks.

Very nice Raymond! But how the heck are we supposed to compete with that? That barn was probably built before our country was even founded! 😄
Doubt it's that old. Pretty typical of farms in this part of the world - that farmstead is less than 2 miles from here.

I live in Witshire and around here we do have stone-built barns like this one and the one at Bradford on Avon that are from the 14th century. Some even earlier, I'm sure. There are lots of old farms - the Romans liked it around here for the productivity of the land and proximity to mineral wealth, trade routes, etc. and I guess some of what's left now will be a hangover from then and later from the Normans after they came to stay in the 11th century.

I feel a bit spoilt!

New Game: Old Barn photo with your XS650 !

Well, it's been two years since the inception of this game, and I predict that there will be some great photos to come with your XS650 and an old barn.

Here are some of my favorites so far:

Gary's "Madness" and a great old barn:

Raymond and his superb stone buildings in the Scottish Borders

Bob's very hearty attempt to find a barn in Arizona 😀

Here are a couple barns I encountered last week in the northern Catskills mountains near Delhi, NY.
The bike is my '82 XS650 Heritage Special which as 11,000 miles on the odo.

Nice photos Dude! I do believe you have some of the most scenic countryside around! Good to see you out scouting the Catskills again!

Lots of great riding weather here in Central New York as well, and the Catskill Mountains are typically a few degrees cooler, so I head out there at least once a week. Recently I stumbled on this enormous old barn out west of Delhi NY which had been converted into an antiques and art store. I was on my '83.

As I entered the establishment I was immediately confronted by a message on a rustic cupboard, one which captivated me so much that I thought it deserved to inhabit my home:

I'm thinking it might bring me some good luck, as well as start a few conversations.

On other threads I'll post a couple additional things I picked up in the barn . . . . .

Barns are always fun beacuse you often find treasures with in. Grampa bought a farm as an amusement in the 1920s. His kids, my dad and uncles and aunt had pets there, horse, goats etc and grandpa had a farmer tend 6 steer for butchering in fall. Family picnics in summer were the norm, the big one after the hay was baled. The last haying came when I was maybe 10 so I wasn't much help yet. But still and after the barns held tractors, I still have one bought new in 63, machinery and tools.

This in front of the tool shed/upper barn. A hayloft in this barn off to the right has a trap door to drop bales to the cattle below. My brother now owns the property and the upper barn is cleaned out and he has occasional weddings or events. Twice he has had bands in to play for big family and friend parties. Bratwurst, beer and bring a dish to pass. Fall 2021 party had 160 family and friends rocking to "Fine Line", a great cover band. One of our sailing friends was bass guitar player for them 10 or so years ago. Anders, in shorts, stepped in with his old band mates for one set.

Grandpa built a bridge across the river in about 1930 and that is the site for some of my tracker photos. Thankfully I haven't dropped it on the steep gravel driveway down to the river.

Also in 1930ish Gandpa added a horse barn. The main level, cedar paneled, had a bull pen and stalls for horses a tack room and one more room and a hayloft. Now the loft is clear and clean a features basket ball hoops in three gables and the main level is finished for conference and a pool table. We gather for pool and beer a couple times a winter.
