Virago

This is the nicest Virago custom I've seen. XV920RH.

Well, Mac, that's a big project you've got. Good luck with it!

Why did I get a Virago? I saw this thing on ebay in the summer of 21. It looked great and I just said, I like it and I want it. So me and my F150 drove 6hrs into Florida. I rode it... I bought it! It's a 96, XV750. It was slow and had no balls, but it ran and started great with no blue or knocks. I had it in my head that I could solve it without any major work. Well, a little, (well maybe alot of carb work), and it get's up now. It'll do the 1/4 mile like the specs say it will. I've only owned 2 other road bikes, 305 Honda and my XS2, but this is the smoothest and easiest bike to ride.

It came with a Yamaha windshield and the bags as you see it above. 11,000 miles. Now it has 21,000 miles. It was too pretty to change anything, so I just removed the windshield and bags and changed out the running boards. That pipes are Jardines. The PO said the his PO put them on. It is definitely alot louder.

Here it is at the Vintage Yamaha Rally 2021. It was the only Virago there. I've been going there since 2016 and I've never seen one there ever. Now that I have one, I'm starting to see them and can pick them out alot easier.

Here's a 1996, 1200 that showed up at the VYR 2022, also in great shape with identical miles as me. There was also a 920 like yours, but I didn't have my fone handy.
I met up with a kid who has a white and black 97, XV750 also with low miles. He said he got it from his Grand Father. Some guy pulled me over a few months ago to tell me had the same bike as mine! It seems that Viragos are kinda rare, but since I bought one, they are starting to come out of the woodwork.

Damn, I really just need the front rim, but for $100 I'd have a whole other bike to sell in the spring. This whole project would actually make me money! My 55 year old knees are taking a pounding though...

I picked the Virago since I really wanted a standardish big twin, but I can't justify making payments on a V9 Roamer in the middle of winter. I put only 4000km on my 650 this year, so I have to admit this hobby is probably in the wind down stage now after 30 years. So far, I have a grand total of $600 invested in both bikes, so at this rate, it will still be the third cheapest bike I have bought. I bought a defunct 900 Seca for $500 that cost me $2500 all in once finished, and a 76 GT380 that I bought for $125 at a pawn shop that I sold on when I realized I wasn't in the right time/space/frame of mind to properly restore it.
