Want to mount your XS650 engine to a typical car engine stand? These are the brackets you need. They are great for rebuilding as well as making an engine test stand.

The brackets bolt up to a typical engine stand (as shown in the second to last picture) and they'll also bolt to the cheap harbor freight stand shown in the rest of the pictures (it has a different slot pattern than most engine stands). With these brackets, there is just enough clearance for the left side cover.

The brackets are powder-coated black and come with all the hardware needed to mount your XS650 engine to a car engine stand. Includes left bracket, right bracket, and hardware. $59.95

If you remove the bottom bolt and then turn the engine over, the top side will tilt toward the upright for the stand and that might provide enough clearance to remove the bottom case. I'll have to try it.

well done sir!! I made one of these for my CB750 and it was awesome to have, especially for easier bottom access!!

Hi Travis, did you or has anyone else confirmed being able to split case upon rotating engine upside down? Thanks.

Even though I placed a paid order on 5/19 for brackets, no notice of shipping...Travis check your e-mail.

There is an article in the tech section on splitting cases. I read it before I did mine, it was helpful.

I sent you an email about your order. And yes, if you remove the bottom bolt from the bracket and rotate the engine upside down the engine will tip toward the upright so that you can remove the lower case.

Thanks for all of the above...I moved my schedule up to start disassembly on engine...rather that doing the prerequisites to just start engine just to hear it run. I'll post a photo of stand, brackets , engine...when I roll it to it's designated spot in a corner of the living room. No kidding.

Listing updated. These have been powder coated black since 2019. Previously they were electrocoated black.

i used one of these, however splitting the case was not as easy as describe. A modification should be made so you can chose not to use the lower engine mount bolt - this could be done by making a rigid "arm" that extend from the top and rest on the top of the engine case. When turned over this will support the weight of the engine so it doesn't tilt down when bottom engine mount bolt are removed.

Any pics or info regarding someone being able to split the cases using the chop source mount. Just so happens my project bike came with the chop source brackets, but I have found it useless unless it actually makes sense to purchase a HarborFreight engine stand(or similar) and can be used with cases split…which my cases came split already.

I have both the chop source and a rolling engine stand similar to the one from harbour freight. In short it doesn’t work for splitting the engine in any easy way. I managed to get it split by unbolting the base attachment but you need something to support the top part and it’s still not ideal.
This guy have made a nice tool - wish I had the ability and material to build one. Does not look to complicated though. I’m sure there could be a market for this model - I for sure would be first in the line.

Yeah, I’ve seen his videos, that is slick!

I'm making another version of these brackets that will allow for splitting the cases. If I don't post something in the next few weeks, feel free to harass me about it.
Sounds awesome and thanks for not taking offense for me saying it’s useless…obviously it’s very helpful but being able to split the cases would definitely sweeten the purchase for anyone wanting to use a engine stand.

Having just bought an engine stand I'm keen to get one of your adapters to go with it, so please alert us when you're ready with it.
