I'm going to be powdercoating the frame and thinking about removing the sticker tag and having one engraved, looking like the picture below. Has anybody had experience doing something similar or tips for how you went about getting a coating with that sticker? Thanks!

Take high quality pictures first and have it reproduced in vinyl?

This is an option. Find someone who can do a high quality sticker, or get the metal tag and tack weld it on. Was just seeing what other people may have done when it came to coating or who/what they used if needing replacement

I heated mine with a blow dryer until it softened, I was then able to peel it off. I saved it with my bikes paperwork in case I ever needed it. When I had the frame powder coated, they covered the vin number with a piece of metal tape, so the powder coat wouldn’t fill it in.

Bob, thanks for the photos! I'm in the process of figuring out how I'm going to register the bike, not even sure I need the tag as long as the vin is clearly visible. May go the route you did and just leave it off but blank out that spot

I picked up a reproduction vin tag from http://www.khneisser.com/ for my CB750 - it’s pretty much perfect in every way.

Get an embossed tag as an engraved tag looks a bit suspect.

His English is a bit broken but he’s very responsive if you ask him questions, ships out fast and got to the states in about a week.

Made exactly like oem with a high quality adhesive back as well

That looks really nice. Going to check them out. Thanks!

I'm looking on khneisser website and can't seem to find a section for Yamaha
I take it you just had him make a custom sticker using clear photos of the original sticker

Mine is an aluminum embossed tag for a CB750.

I find the website pretty hard to navigate.

I don’t know his selection for Yamaha so I’d just email him and ask.

I’d bet he can make anything if he doesn’t have it on the site already.

I emailed him with some questions and while his English is a bit spotty he was quick to respond with a good answer.

Yeah it just looks like he makes the plates

There are others on eBay UK for cheap. What's in the US is expensive. Perhaps it's a liability issue. That's just a WAG.

Do you have tha website for the UK Ebay sellers ?

Posted this in a similar thread recently———Just got my new vinyl VIn Label from a very well respected guy in the US. He is a moderator on the Yamaha 2 Stroke Trail Bike Forum and an excellent resource for hard to get Yam parts as well as rebuilding oil pumps and gauges. He charged 25 dollars posted to the UK for my XS2. I think I remember a Brit advertising on EBay, but Deet also supplies the exact silver sleeving for the XS wiring so I went with him. Cheers.
DEET (yamaha@nc.rr.com). Should be cheaper posting within the USA. If your interested just email him for price.
