The reason I leave my key in the ignition. Anybody who knows how to run them probably already has one or is old school and wouldn't dream of messing with mine.
I removed the keyed ignition switch on my streettracker. (See the December page of the new calendar šŸ˜) Replaced it with a hidden toggle switch.
I figured most bike thieves are not looking to steal a one off, 40 year old bike and if they were, they don't know where the switch is, lol.

These days, our 40 year old snotters are worth more and more and worth while getting IDs and addresses of owners, to scope out their habits and be ready to load the bike in a van. No hot wiring required.

That's all relative. Yes, 40 year old XS650's are worth more than they were 15 years ago, they still aren't worth much.
A bike thief is gonna go down the street to steal something he wants or can sell. Something popular. Something expensive.
I'm way more worried about my late model Triumph Thruxton R than my '82 XS or the '74 GT380. They aren't worth going to prison for.

Prison? Even here in Fla. where they are pretty tough on crime, virtually no one does prison time for grand theft unless they have had many convictions. Where I live, they fear the homeowner far more than LE.

In Memphis, 30 cars are stolen each and every day. Deterrent? Yes, Iā€™m deterred from driving anything Iā€™m afraid to lose or anyone wants to steal.

Here is an unusual one, a

It might be a start on a spare engine. Or a way to explore a performance build without committing your "good" engine.
If it were closer, I'd offer him $100 for just the bike. I figure I could recoup most of that selling of the pieces. Kick start lever, shifter, maybe foot pegs, head pipes, etc.

The only problem I see with that one, for $100, is it's a heritage. That means it's got the wonky rims.
On the other hand, I'd probably replace them anyway.
I'd say it's a good deal

Seller's Description
Probably the worst example of a super hawk that exists. Previous owner spun a bearing in the crank and had engine rebuilt by a buddy. The engine runs now but not well at all and spits out oil into the exhaust and smokes like crazy. I bought as a project and did the following:
Valve stem seals
Lap valves
Head gaskets
Piston rings
None of these remedied the issue due to the scoring in the cylinders.
Not many usable parts on it either. Was in an accident. Front wheel is dented and bike doesnā€™t track straight probably bent forks but I never got that far to check.
I NEED GONE SEND ME A OFFER.
Thanks!
