Wheel Lacing

Yes, they claim they fit O.E.M. rims. They have the 48/64 spoke sets and the 36 spoke sets. Some are a real bargain too, like $33 for the rear 16" 48 spoke set in stainless. That's hardly any more than cad spokes.

Looks like I stand corrected. The 18" rim on a front hub laced up twice as better than the 19". No bowed spokes and just about as straight as my Cheney Knock Off rims. I`ll get some tires mounted next week and all I`ll have left is to find a rear adaptor. That is until I think of something else.

I've never laced a wheel. I want to relace my Heritage wheels and I considered aftermarket rims. I believe I'll derust the chrome ones and relace those. Can I source stainless steel replacement spokes from the MkesXS or XS650 Direct? Or will those also prove problematic.
Lace a wheel when you are not in a hurry. Winter is best. Think it out. Do it. Realize you didn't think it out completely and re-do it. Then post pictures.:D (how do I know this shit?)

I’ve had good luck with them as well but the SS spoke sets were out the last couple times I needed sets and I had to order Cad.

I use to have the tool to thread your own spokes. I sold it to a guy in Australia.
I use to make our spokes for our flat trackers back in the 70's. We bought long untreaded spokes and we would cut them off and then used the die to thread them.

No. That is a WM3 (2.15) 19" rim for the front. The 18" I laced up will be for the rear.

Before I go any further does this look correct?:umm:

The hole angles look wrong. I laced a Mike's Polished Aluminum front in October. It took me three attempts to get the pattern right. I started at the valve stem hole. I would get all the left inners on, start with the right inners and go ooops. Repeat. In the end, the spokes pulled true to the hole angles.

I tried the rim according to some you tube video then took it apart and laced it as per 5twins instructions on wheel lacing 101. The holes needed re drilled a little so I did that and laced it again, compared it to another 19" rim I had and they looked the same. Inner spokes on each side of the valve stem. The 18" rim laced right up with no issues at all. Anyway I hope it`s correct as it is already trued and balanced.

Thanks Gary. I did use the 18" rim to front hub spokes from Mike`s and they worked great. On my Scrambler I used spokes from Buchanan`s but the hub was a larger diameter. It laced up with no problem and there was no re drilling necessary. The 18" rim from Mikes was a higher quality than the 19. The seam on the 18 was barely noticeable.
