Interesting motorcycles, not XS650

1975 RD250 project. It was converted to a 350 many years ago and owned by a friend of mine since 1977. He closed his business and moved to Florida recently and offered it to me cheap. I actually put this bike together out of the crate when I worked at the local Yamaha shop back in the day.

Well, how cool is that? Nice bike! 😀

I had a 1973 RD350 once, I was the second owner, back in 1974. As a high school kid, I paid $350 for one that was virtually brand new. I am still stunned by how much these little RD’s have shot up in value. These all just sold at the Las Vegas Mecham auction.

It is kind of hard to believe the money some old bikes are going for. I've got a 1971 H1 500 Kawasaki that I found behind a barn a few years ago that cost me $350. I've had several offers for way more than that and it's completely torn down right now. Got to get the crank rebuilt.

I didn't have a workshop or even garage space at the time, but I was thinking of marrying together two devices I knew about.
The BMW R-series gearbox and frame, and the Daihatsu 1000cc three-cylinder turbo diesel, producing around 60bhp, supposedly.
The idea went on the back burner for many years, and then I discovered that some Germans had done it, with exactly those components.
There was also a smart-arse retired auto engineer who told me it couldn't be done. I think that was sour grapes as he hadn't thought of it.

I purchased this 1978 XR75 Honda shortly after I purchased my xs 650 special for a pit-bike for my 10 year younger little brother. He tried to ride the Honda out of it and didn’t succeed. He saved it. I’m preserving it for him.
