I have an original repainted 1975 xs650 tank I’d like to restore to its original glory. I’m looking to pay someone to take my tank and paint it as a spot on replica of this tank:

I don’t mind paying well for the right artist but I’ll need a shot of previous work. I’ve seen some of the guys around here do some spot on work so if anyone is looking to have some more fun here’s your chance to get paid to do it.

Thanks for the kind words guys. :)

Leavejay... If you follow that link Dogbunny put up, you'll know when the paint room is back up and running. Send me a PM then and we'll see what we can do.
Prolly sometime next month... weather permitting.

I was looking for a tank for my XS650 Special with the dame paint scheme as yours. I recently bought a tank from a custom painter thinking I could make it work on my bike. The painter was honestly uncertain what the tank was from so I took a chance. It turned out it wasn't an XS650 tank but I think from an XS400. However, the painter did do it with graphics similar to what you're looking for. The main color looks black in some lights but is kind of a greenish black that he actually called "hallucinogenic" green I believe. Let me know if you might want any more photos of this tank.

Tom,

Very sweet tank! I love the hallucinogenic green. Wanna part with it by any chance?

I appreciate the recommendation. Was the price reasonable?

More pics would be cool.

Hey J
I'm not sure if it would be proper to discuss the pricing on the tank on the forum since I'm sure the painter determines his prices per job. Is hIs there a way I can contact you off this forum?

As I mentioned, I'm thinking the tank is from a XS400. Search for "Tank" in the forums and If you check my post under "Help Identifying a Tank" there is more info and comments there. The tank does fit on the front and rear XS650 Special mounting points but there are a couple of immediate problems with its fit. The petcock is farther forward than a XS650 tank and comes down on top of the engine. Also the back of the tank is wider on also goes over the top of the rear mounting tab leaving no room for the stock seat. Attached are a few photos showing the mystery tank compared to my '78 XS650 Special tank. FYI - I checked the capacity on the tank and its almost 15 liters.
