I am back with a Yamaha

Britman - love the colour. I will see mine for the first time on Wednesday - I think I have chosen a green like the Kwaka 900 - If it looks half as good as yours, I will be happy.

Some front end lipstick. Planning on mounting the tank tomorrow and hopefully the first time around the block.......If you don't hear anything further from me, just assume something screwed up......

Final Post

First and foremost I really want to thank all of the folks who contributed to this thread to help get this "Old Girl" back up and running. The best site I have ever been a part of where folks are so willing to share their expertise. We went around the block today and I was truly impressed. The bike runs extremely well, shifts perfectly, no flat spots or hesitation, and will sit and idle all day. Of course I have a few final adjustments to do, throttle cable, seat height and so forth, but for all intensive purposes the bike is done. Now will I keep it, that is a question a few more miles will make the final call on. I may even start a search for another XS650, I have some parts left over and really enjoyed the process on this one. Thanks again everyone.....

The seat mounting plate is now a wall hanger in the garage. I have made the springs mount to the frame lugs, but it wasn't easy, very tight fit even with moving the seat brace forward with some extra holes drilled. There is very little give left in the seat with the 3 inch springs so I have ordered a set of 5 inch springs, hopefully they will give a little more flex. Sadly the riding position is somewhat more cramped for me and my height of 6'4'' so I am still pondering a solution. I will be visiting the Virginia DMV next week for a title transfer and yes maybe an antique tag for a little spring time riding. Something about the bike appeals to my younger days, but a 74 year old man with extra ear hair, a flat arse. and iffy back needs two choppers about as much as an Eskimo needs a thong.......
