Well almost motorcycle related as in the summer the motorcycle uses the driveway the snow blower clears in the winter.

I just have an idea someone here may know where I could find this.

What I need is a strip of spring steel 0.310 inches wide and 0.060 inches thick. Looking for at least two pieces 12 inches long.

This is to fabricate some springs that operate the ratcheting drive wheels on an old snow blower. It appears the originals went out of production over 30 years ago! I did manage to locate probably the last new old stock one on FleaBay for $15.00 but would like to find material to make some more or less for kicks.

I have looked on McMaster Carr but nothing close. Just hoping one of you people here know of some other sources?

Wow. That's a pretty specific dimension. What about a binding strap from a pallet of (fill in the blank). A lot of that stuff is spring steel (I think). Close enough might be close enough.

Probably the most important dimension would be the width, as it only has a narrow area to fit in. I'll try to take a look at the assembly in the next day or so to see if I can get away with something wider like 3/8 inch. I guess the width would actually be a nominal 5/16. I just used the decimal size as I had my calipers handy.

So maybe putting it in fractions might be better. 1/16th inch thick, 5/16 wide 12 inches or longer.

I think the trick will be finding some other part that has the requisite spring steel as part of it's design.
Too big for your use, but I filch sections off the end of my sewer rodding tape. Cuz it's wonderfully strong and supple spring steel.
You can heat and bend spring steel, let it air cool, and it has the same awesome properties in it's new shape. Drilling holes in it is entertaining.
Several motorcycles are riding around with spring steel latches made from that metal.
Mildly related; dad had a spring steel snow shovel, light strong and powerful, have never been able to find another. Any shovel I've found advertised as being spring steel is just hype, heavy and clunky..
A quick tell of the genuine article is a deep cobalt blue color.

gggGary, good ideas just need to keep my eyes open. Might have to take a good look at the assembly this is part of to see if a change from 5/16 width to either 1/4 or 3/8 inch would be workable. That might open up a whole new range of possible sources! Heck might even be possible to use round stock material running two or more in parallel.
