Pointy... #4 by 1/4" length should get into the pits. 20 bucks or so gets you a thousand screws. Might be worth a shot...

Hex head sheet metal screws have sharp areas on both ends...........

If it's going to sit empty, you can buy WD40 in gallon size (I do) and put a quart (liter to ya'll furriners), shake it up and strain it back into the can. Should be good for quite a long time. If the bike is in storage, fill 'er up and put some 2 cycle oil in it. I always keep my tanks full.
 
Evapo - rust also make a product called Rust - Block.
Its for storing stuff after you have removed the rust using Evapo-rust.
I use it for a 77D fuel tank that I am keeping/storing long term. I pour 1 litre into the tank and swish it around until all the inside surface is coated and pour the remainder out for next time. I do this every 6 months. Its completely safe on everything and washes out with water.
