WOW just WOW.
Had to be the first turn after the start. Still a lot of trust between them that somebody wasn't going to run out of skill or do something stupid. o_OView attachment 236284
Skill hell... That was desperation. In those days if they didn't do well, gas money to the next event came out of retirement savings.🤣

Phillip Island didn't disappoint. Racing in the rain Saturday and dry on Sunday.

Yes speedway sidecar racing is a thing and its very popular in Australia and NZ.
When I was a small boy I went to Western Springs speedway in Auckland. The speedway solos where the most exciting thing I had seen since the Cemetery Circuit races in my hometown.
Not long afterwards I went to a horse racing meeting, to this day it stands out as the most boring day of my life. I have only been to 1 horse racing meeting since and my opinion has not changed.

I had posted about my friend and neighbor and fellow classmate in HS, Ken Pressgrove before on this site but can`t find it. Anyway a birthday tribute to him on VFT today.:thumbsup:

The producer, Bruce Brown, made mention of him in his all-time classic motorcycle movie "On Any Sunday".

I distinctly remember him saying "they dont all make it through the season" after mentioning "the late Ken Pressgrove". 😪

Don Vesco & "Silverbird", a streamliner powered by 2 TZ750 engines: first over 300mph

Prior to becoming a land-speed legend, Vesco honed his skills first as a teenaged drag racer in his native San Diego, California, then as a motorcycle road racer, a career that was highlighted by victory in 1963 at Daytona International Speedway in the U.S. Grand Prix.

Vesco's road racing career led to a career as a tuner and a sponsor, a man who provided many a young rider with the opportunity to pursue their dreams, especially if those dreams revolved around racing motorcycles. Vesco, through his little shop in El Cajon, sponsored many a racer – from the unknown local motocrosser or desert racer to the likes of road racers such as 250cc World Champion Kel Carruthers and AMA Grand National Champion Gene Romero.

If you ever get a chance to get this book do it. It`s 159 pages of pure flat track indoctrination. If you think you`ve got flat track fever now you`ll have to be under a doctor`s care after you read this.:yikes:
