This morning I woke up to read in the paper that a local cyclist died in a crash in the wee hours of this morning. I happen to know this sweeping curve very well, as I have ridden this road for many, many years. As a matter of fact, it was 14 years ago tomorrow that my best friend lost his life at the exact same spot as this morning's victim. His crash occurred about 5 minutes after he left my house. I would not typically consider this a dangerous curve, but it is very apparrent that those who do not know the road, or try to take it at extreme speeds could easily loose control. I've been texting my buddy's little brother this morning and am reliving that day all over again. RIP to today's victim. I can bet that Brandon was there guiding his way to the great beyond. I miss you Brandon! RIP BROTHER!!

On a long sweeping curve like that, at speed, take one hand off the handlebars. You'll learn about countersteer in a hurry.

Wow! I’m sorry to hear about your friend and todays fatality. It’s funny, that corner looks innocent enough. It just goes to show you can never let your guard down.
Back in the 70’s my old roommate who rode a Honda CB750 was blowing through a fast sweeper and he drifted just a little wide and his front wheel touched the gravel on the side of the road and that was all she wrote. He went down and was amazingly barely scathed but his Honda slid for a ways then started flipping end over end, eventually hitting a telephone pole and totaling the bike.
My friend was very lucky to walk away.
