My headlight bulb is bad both the high and low beam filaments It's off an 81 but I think they are all the same ?
It's the 3 prong type but I just cant remember what type
I'd run to the auto parts store but there closed and they might not even stock the old school bulbs

I dug through my old private blog messages until I found the one from Max Pete about headlight modulators
I need an H4
Memory be damned

7” Amazon housing. Inexpensive and worked well. Cdn $

On my '83, I got an original Yamaha H4 assembly from another model, from an XS850 triple. It fit nicely and wasn't too expensive. I scored the whole headlight bucket with the light for about $25 off eBay. I just installed the light for now but may try the whole bucket some day. I knew it would fit because the two bikes use the same chrome ring.

I got to dig around in the shop I just might have a bulb with the chrome ring attached :umm:
Now if the bulb is any good ?

Keep in mind that all H4 reflectors are not created equally. Some have much better beam patterns than others.
Yes. IMHO, the one on my Eleven Special is outstanding. However, it’s 43 years old. I have wondered about replacing just the reflector with aftermarket. I’m assuming the beam pattern has a lot to do with the glass.

So the led head light bulbs are comparable or brighter than the oem ? Where they always? I feel like years ago they weren't that bright, I know they make em very bright now. Do you have a link for your led bulb and set up Ww?
The led should be lower in w? I'm looking for just a little edge over my stock 1980 system. I have a plan for a rear tail light led set up. That with an led headlight will put me where I want to be.
