The BS34 manifolds will take the VM34s. Whilst the manifolds are listed as 42mm they are actually smaller by around 1-2mm, you just need, to cinch the hose clamps up a little tighter. Hoos racing sell rubber manifolds to fit VM34, which I assume are stock BS34 manifolds. I have read of people using the BS34 manifolds to fit VM34s on a couple of other forums.

The best bit is if you do use the BS34 manifolds, the VMs will clear the petcocks.

I found the two piece manifolds that come with the VM kits site the carbs right under the petcocks, requiring the carbs to be tilted. Not ideal, so I made my own manifolds.

Got all the bits too?
As usual there's a backstory to this whole mess.

In 1986 I decided I really needed to go to BMW and ride a airhead 650. Up until that point in life motorcycle dealerships were in old houses or old appliance stores etc etc. The BMW dealership was shiny. Walked in and saw their new bike, the k100 and immediately fell in love with it.

They had a brand new 1985 model , in fact quite a few of them that they were offering for $6,000 rolling out the door. I went home and thought about it and a couple of days later decided I was going to buy that bike. I pull up to the dealership and it's gone. On the door is a handwritten note with an address across town. Turns out to be a motorcycle shop that I knew of, not necessarily a dealership. I walked in and they had motorcycles in crates stacked from floor to ceiling in this little place and among others was the bike that I wanted. 45 minutes later I jumped onto my brand new bike that I paid $4995 to drive out.

Up until this time I had ridden mostly my 650 and the two stroke twins and this beast was a eye opener.

Sadly it was a motorcycle somewhat ahead of its time. The part that was not ahead of its time was its total dislike of ethanol. Two $500 fuel pumps later and four or five years of riding it it got parked. Really liked that bike though and for the last 20 years I've walked by it sitting outside very sad.

At this point the really big issue with it is the gas tank and I got a decent one on this deal. Paid $150 for the whole mess. And yes I got the rest of the parts to actually make it roll. It's missing quite a few pieces, but ECU , throttle body, MAF and a good gas tank makes it a deal for me.

150 bucks would pay just the shipping for a tank from eBay so happy camper.

It was fun to get this thing out of his backyard and onto the trailer.

K100 update

Hi pressure fuel lines in the tank like snapping twigs. Inside of tank looks good and a good cleaning of pump is in order. Working out what to do about gas cap. All and all looks like a working tank.

Yea!! The engine turns over on the parts bike. Not sure about RS yet.

Looks like some expensive rubber bits in my future.

Been researching the L-Jetronic system. For 40 years I have thought the ECU was a fancy microprocessor controlled system. Nope all analog like the 650 TCI.
