Yet Another Clutch Mod. Thread

You boys look in tech section?
Without counting 'em, I have about 8 or 10 of my threads in the Tech section... so yeah, I been know to look there from time to time... your point?
8# 11# 15# vs. 29# 45# is the accept or reject limits?
Not sure what all that means?

Thanks for coming back to this thread Jim...was reminded that I was curious to know how the 45mm position worked out for you.
 
Clutch lever pull effort at the bars, I was referring to.
How much is too much?
Without going hydraulic, how low can we expect?

lol who me? I almost want to show you guys my conversion just so no one wasted anymore time and effort fiddling with these things, I do think all the mods to the worm drive are good and the different length on the actuator helps too, but my first time doing my "MOD" was out of necessity and the parts I had, and I only did it like I said to get to have a clutch with what I had, and the first pull I was amazed, and getting a good clean easy to find neutral was easier from then on too... I can spoil the fun..but I think when this one gets built the photos showing how I do it will be more better

I had an old worm clutch actuator that came with the bike when I bought it. I've no idea what it was off, but the lever was quite a bit shorter than the XS650 lever.
I too have arthritis in my hands, and fused fingers, which makes it difficult to operate the clutch, So, I cut the spare actuator apart, turned up a round thing to hold the seal, made a lever slightly longer than the stock actuator and welded everything together.
It works great, my arthritic hands can handle the pul and the plates seperate, I'll have to wait unti I start the bike again tosee how it works.

The longer the arm is, the less rotation of the worm you'll get for any given amount of arm travel. Less arm travel means less pushrod movement and less clutch plate separation. You might get enough plate separation when cold but when things get hot and parts expand, maybe not.
