Rear fender...
We'll just say I'm not gonna use the fender Gary sent me and jus' leave it at that.... ;)

Scrounged around my pile of fenders and found one worthy of Madness.
Like a lot of 'em, it's cracked in the back. I've tried welding 'em in the past... and they always seem to crack around the weld. Lets try brazing this time.
Took the torch and burned inside the flange then wire brushed it for cleanliness.

Cut off a drill bit the right size, stuffed it in there and bent the flange back around it.

Got it hot and flowed some brass in there. This is where the extra time cleaning pays in bonuses.

Now I jus' got a little body work to do on it and it's ready to prime.
C’mon @Jim, you gotta think about ‘elf ‘an safety what’s wiv the bare feet man?

The trick to painting chrome is to rough up the surface.... duh. The problem is finding something to dull the chrome and not dig into the parent metal at the same time. That's where this bad boy comes in. An 80 grit flapper wheel. Hell, I've no idea what its called. It's sat in the bottom of my rollaway so long I've forgotten when and where it came from. But damn it does a good job on chrome.

Fender's primed. I'll do the body bits tomorrow. Also got the last of the dings on the tank... fingers crossed, I'll be shootin' blue tomorrow.

Like my buddy from Tennessee, I always say he never had shoes till he joined the Army. Got sent to Italy and met and married a girl from Verona. Boy was his mom pissed when he brought her home. She asked him if his cousins weren't good enough.

You know, I used to think these bikes needed their chrome fenders. But the more I see these painted fenders, the more I like them! They really make the bike pop! 👍🏻

As an addendum in re fenders. For the "Red Bike" I had mine de-chromed at a plating shop and shot them with rustoleum primer when they were shipped back to me. I did not do a rear fender Crack inspection but Jim never mentioned an issue. I unwrapped stunning tank, side covers and headlight shell but the fenders remain wrapped as Jim shipped them in his patentable shipping method. :)
