crank only rotates 340 degrees

One friction plate was broken (and the rest were VERY stuck). Never seen this before. I don't have one handy, but I think the later years friction plates are on a metal backing?
(I still haven't reached the cylinder.)

I've had it on mine

Ooof- she's been run hard and put away wet, for sure. Re: your 340 degrees of rotation in each direction and a dead stop? I see you overcame it, but I had the exact same thing happen a few years back on an outboard motor. Piston skirt broke, chunks got into the cylinder and the motor did the exact same thing, spin one direction to a hard stop, same deal in the other direction. Lots of metal on top of that piston!

I believe this crud is what was preventing full rotation of the crank. The cylinder looks pretty good. The honing marks look fresh, and there is almost no scoring. Makes me think the engine was never run after rebuilding, or not for long.

More previous owner nonsense. One of the four wrist pin clips is a circlip.
