Here in the Phoenix metro area they have been grinding them up and mixing them into paving asphalt. Then using that to coat city freeways and highways. You wouldn’t believe how much quieter it makes the freeways. When you’re driving and you come off of the standard road and onto the rubberized asphalt it’s like somebody just turned the volume way down inside your car.
It’s a great way to repurpose those old tires, they don’t allow them in the landfills and we had dumps that were literally mountains of used tires and every once in a while they catch on fire and OMG! They burn for days and bury the city in black smoke!
Like this one near me from a couple years ago.
