What have you done to your XS today?

Back from my daughter's today and straight on Red.
After a while I lost most lever movement although I could still brake.
So caliper off g clamped the disc pad on the piston , wow it did not want to move so I cracked the bleed nipple and tried tightening the clamp.
Went as easy as you would expect a caliper with stainless piston and new seals would so I pumped a lot of Dot 4 through before shutting the nipple.
Some crap backfed into the master cylinder along with bubbles and needed wiping out.
Red was a quick and dirty rescue and has just had the 1st service at 150 miles from "fired up" but I didn't touch the brakes, made no difference the most likely time to have a problem is just after you work on it.
Update, first 50 or so running lever pulls were not great so I cable tied the lever back as far as it would go overnight.
This morning the brake was so good I discovered the clutch was slipping.

HUGE upgrade getting rid of those banana bars. Now for that seat - any suggestions?

Extra pick of the stable as it sits, with another rando on the way Saturday....

Carbs were a bit “wobbly” with carb boot clamps made from Chinesium. Splurged and bought a pair of Yamaha clamps. Way better quality and now the carbs are snug in the holders with no movement. Replaced the shifter boot with a Yamaha piece. The XS650direct part wasn’t wearing well.

As I seem to have an ignition issue, I took @Jim advice to apply a strobe light to check timing.
Went to the Car Mechanic called Brian across the road and asked ''Could I borrow a strobe light please?''
Brian and his mate just fell down laughing; when he recovered he said ''I haven't used one of them for years''
Of course I said ''you plug cars into laptops to find the problems these days''.
How boring is that. Plug in, find fault, buy part, swap part.....Car fixed.

So I bought this:

Should look like this (idling) and as rpms added the rotor mark should move clockwise to the drain groove. We're also looking for the light (indicating spark) being steady with rpm and not breaking-up above your 2000rpm symptom mark (indicating loss of spark)

STROBE LIGHT SHOW

So I warmed up the bike and attached the strobe gun as instructed.
At at idle (1000rpm) the flash coincided with the 'U' timing mark, on both spark plug leads.
Like in the video @jpdevol posted.
Above 2000rpm the flash moved to be inline with the drain slot on the case.
I guess this indicates the ignition is OK?

If so on to the carbs........

Success! Yeah if it advanced and also didn't "break-up" the TCI is good to go (with the exception of intermittent issue, a break in pick-up leads to Igniter). On to the carbs it is.......:banghead:

If I may suggest; One of the first things I'd do, given your symptom, is remove the pods and check for proper diaphragm/slide operation: start it up and peer into the bell and verify the slides are lifting with rpm. If not, or if they flutter @2000, press the choke rod in (attempting to overcome a leak) and see if the slides respond. Otherwise I'm also paying particular attention to the diaphragm operation (14sec drop test)

Hi @jpdevol
Started up a warm engine and raised revs to around 2000rpm. Slides raised as expected; and dropped to normal idle position.
