2024 Yamaha XS650 Society Inaugural Westby WI Rally. Sept 8th though Friday Sept 13th

@Kevin Werner I think a cookout is a great idea. Twice in Mountain View we have gotten pizza and ate in the parking lot at the Folk Center. I enjoyed it and I think everyone else did to. I don't have any room to pack anything for food other than my appetite. I am packing my tire irons and a set...

    Clean my crank!

Make sure you spray it with oil after cleaning. The oil needs to coat all the steel surfaces and is worked into the bearings.

You could go with a 2into2. Similar look.

BIG carburation problems after installing 'Hot' cam

The joys of a modified engine. The lows when it doesn't work as planned and the highs when you find the problem.

BIG carburation problems after installing 'Hot' cam

With the problem you are having don't assume anything. You have a lot of quality parts that are not playing nice together.

BIG carburation problems after installing 'Hot' cam

That sounds like the ignition itself is ok. Should check both sides to make sure they are both ok. Also make sure the ignition is set up for 270. I would bet the coils, wires and plugs are fairly new but new does not always mean good. Then as has been suggested make sure the cam is set up for 270.

Is this too much rust damage??

Another question is does it have a title? If so definitely do the deal. If not then it's it's just parts. Still wouldn't be a bad deal.

BIG carburation problems after installing 'Hot' cam

If your timing stays steady with the light at higher RPMs the ignition is probably ok. If the timing goes bat shit crazy and jumps all over the place it could be the problem.

    True Facts for Mechanics

That gives new meaning to the term "slow blow" fuse.

Is this too much rust damage??

How insanely good of a deal? To me there is a used motor that you probably won't know if it's any good until you do a lot of checking into it. A set of fork and a set of wheels. The frame looks very suspect. If it's cheap enough to make it a good deal for the parts go for it.

Xs1 internal change over 73 TX

Here is a pic of a 73 engine. I'm sure the lengths are the same as a 447 engine. I have a 447 crank in XS2 cases. I think someone told me that only 70-71 cranks will fit in 70-71 cases. Something about the crank is wider because of the starter gear teeth. I could be wrong, I do not have a 70-71...

If you really want to do that fine and dandy. What you really need to do is pinpoint the short.

    FrankS 1978 Special

As gggGary's and Jim's pics show only 3 things things can cause the short if the bike is wired correctly. Ignition switch, rectifier or the wire in the harness.

    FrankS 1978 Special

It's a bulb. All it's doing the way it's connected is showing current has a path to ground for it to flow. If it's the main fuse with the key off there should be no path. With the key off there should be voltage a several places on the bike but no path to ground. Odds are his problem is a bad...
