I plan to buy the 1.5mm oversized pistons from cruizinimage and have the cylinders bored to match. Havent been able to find any info on whether this requires an oversized head and base gasket, or if stock sized will work? If oversized required, anyone have any links to good sources?
Here's an update. When i simplified the wiring harness, I ran the yellow alternator electro-magnet wire off the R/W ignition line. In testing, i noticed that if i unplugged that wire (removing power to the rotor) The erratic throttle behaviour stopped and the bike revved up past 3k RPM normally...
I have a 1981 Special, i had it running for a couple of weeks this summer with no issues, and all of a sudden while riding home from work the bike started surging and cutting in and out, with a weird sounding engine note. I tried giving it gas to keep it alive but it eventually died completely...
Update: Pulled the carbs and re-cleaned the pilot circuit. I also realized my rookie mistake of failing to clean the emulsion tubes. They were so crusted up that i actually thought they couldn't be removed the first time. Re-set both mixture screws to 2.5 turns.
Next i tested if the old float...
