Some Yamahas are reversed where what you are looking for is on the tank instead of the frame. I think I found a cheap 850 tank on eBay and cut them off that. They were the same size as the xs650, although $29.00 sounds like a cheap solution to me.

Dxs650, Did your figure this out? I agree with you the instructions are confusing. I figured out the stator wiring and now trying to figure out what you have brought up. I thought one glass of wine would give me some clarity but it didn't. Then I tried two and it got even worse.

This is a beauty and if I didn't already have five xs650's I'd been interested. It's sad that these wonderful bikes and worth much more. My current 1980 build will have about 8K in it but I'll never get that price for it, ha! Oh look, I still have wine in my glass.
